Machu Picchu in Peru is recognized as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1983.  The 4 days Lares Trek to Machu Picchu is the short trek you have been waiting for. It is not a technical hike rather a moderate one to suit all individuals. Get prepared if you are up for a small challenge with yourself to hike for 3 days in the Alpine forests around the local conservative villages. This trekking tour will also become a cultural tour once you come across the traditional Inca language (Quechua) speaking local people. Enjoy your time with the llamas, waterfalls, the mystical or healing mineral waters, in the panoramic beauty of the calming landscapes.

Itinerary

Day 1: Thermal Baths to Kiswarani Waterfalls

Camping, 10kms

You will start your day at 5:00 am and taken on a 3 hours’ drive to Lares Hot Springs site where you can have your breakfast. Enjoy the perfect views of Andes Valley, the stress-healing or medicinal hot spring waters, and other landscape views. As we move uphill we will reach our lunch spot called Kiswarani. While heading towards your destination point, you will come across wool-covered mountain friends - llamas. Gradually by trekking further you will reach your campsite location in 2 hours after passing the ancient villages and exploring the lifestyle of the native people. Enjoy your dinner, star-gaze, move into your tent and turn off your body and mind for the night.

Camp Elevation: 3,850m/12,631ft

Day 2: Condor Pass - CanchaCancha Village

Camping, 14kms

Wake up at 5 am and consume some hot drinks to recharge yourself. The Sunrise is undoubtedly a privilege, especially if you are at a higher altitude. Breakfast will be served once you will be done readjusting your gear and is ready for the day. This will probably be the most memorable day as described by many other trekkers because on this day you will begin climbing towards Machu Picchu. It will be a 3-4 hour trek to reach the summit of the mountain in Condor Pass or Pachacute. Then you will begin the downhill descent towards the El Mirador (Vista Point) which will also be your lunch point. Further, arrive at the village of CanchaCancha (3,750m/12,303ft), where 85% of the houses are built by stone and grass-thatched roofs.

Day 3: Huaran to Maras Salt Mines to AguasCalientes

Hotel, 9kms

After breakfast, you can spend some time exploring the village and learn the traditional Inca language, Quechua. Then you can start the trek and witness the Peruvian agriculture at the same time. You will notice the micro-climatic changes as you descend down the same trail, from the Sacred Valley to Huaran Village, bid your goodbyes to the horses, porters, chef as they will be going back to their places and you will be catching a cab/van for a short drive to Salineras Salt Pans in Maras town. It is said that the salt contains healing properties because of its high content of natural minerals. Then we will take a drive for 45 minutes to reach Ollantaytambo village. After that, we will catch a train to AguasCalientas (a town below Machu Picchu). When you reach, you will be checking in to your hotel and just relax for the day.

Elevation: 2,000m/6,562ft

Day 4: Machu Picchu Day

On this day, you will finally get to experience Machu Picchu. Therefore, your day will start at 5:30 am and you will be riding up 30 minutes to Machu Picchu. Here, your guide will enlighten you with useful information about the much-loved location. Later, you can explore on your own by hiking to Huayna Picchu (chargeable entrance ticket). Then, in the afternoon, you can catch a 2-hour train while heading back to Ollantaytambo, then a bus, and finally a provided transport facility to the hotel.

Good to Know

The trek will consist of horsemen and porter to carry the entire luggage (bags and equipment). An extra horse will always be there in case a person needs some respite from the hiking. The porters are usually in the age range of 18-55 all hailing from the Cusco region. We are committed towards making their lives better by providing them employment opportunity.
