Trip Overview

Gokyo valley trek is a thrilling and adventurous trek in the Khumbu region. The rugged and quiet terrain is filled with heavenly beauty and enticing views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu. This is a moderate level trek tour with an unspoiled environment. Gokyo Valley stores many glacial lakes, Sherpa settlements, monasteries, and mesmerizing vistas of the Khumbu Himalayas. Gokyo valley is the base of the highest freshwater lakes system in the world, with more than 19 lakes.

The trek trail initially follows the milky white Dudhkoshi River, followed by lush green forested paths and the largest glacier in Nepal; the Ngozumpa glacier. The rural lifestyle of the Sherpa villages adds to the charm of this trek by maintaining the ethnicity and culture of Nepal. Gokyo Ri peak is another attraction of this trek, that offers breathtaking views of the mountains from the summit. This less crowded trail provides the perfect opportunity to rejuvenate and revive amidst the unparalleled beauty of the Himalayas.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu and Check-in at hotel
    Reach Kathmandu International Airport and our representative will meet you there and transfer you to the Hotel. The rest of the day is free and you can explore the vibrant city. The tour manager will meet you at the Hotel and brief all the participants about the trip, followed by a welcome dinner.
  • Day 2: Acclimatize at Kathmandu
    Depart from the Hotel and explore the city of Kathmandu. Enjoy a full-day guided tour of the city and visit places of interest; Durbar palace, KalBhairav, Hanuman Dhoka, Taleju Temple, Kasthamandap, and Kumari Ghar. Visit Buddhist Stupas, and Pashupatinath Temple along the holy Bagmati river followed by welcome dinner at the hotel.
  • Day 3: Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding
    Board the early morning flight to Lukla via Kathmandu International Airport. Start Trekking from Lukla and descend above farmlands. Cross through Sherpa Villages of Chheplung, Ghat and Sano, and ThuloGumela. Visit famous shrines and monasteries on the way including Drangdrak Gompa and Pema Choling Gompa. Trek towards Phakding and witness mesmerizing views of Kumbila Mountain and summits of Kusum Kanguru peaks. Spend the night at a camp in Phakding.
  • Day 4 : Trek to Namche
    Trek through the hamlet of Zamphute and Tok Tok, followed by the scenic Sherpa Villages. Reach the Utche Gompa at the Dudhkoshi River and trek further into the Sagarmatha National Park. Follow a steep climb and cross the last villages of Jorsale. Cross a high bridge over the Dudhkoshi River gorge and trek uphill towards Namche. Capture the glorious view of the Mt. Everest and cross the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge to reach the Namche bazaar.
  • Day 5: Acclimatize at Namche
    Adapt to the high altitude and explore Namche bazaar. Witness the Saturday market or enjoy short treks to have a look at the snowy mountains, villages, and terraced fields. Overnight stay in tent/lodge will be arranged.
  • Day 6: Trek to Phortse Thenga
    Trek on the steep trail through Rhododendron forest, juniper and large conifers. Feel the increase in elevation and pass through Yak Kharka settlements. Enjoy mesmerizing views of Khumbi La and Tawache as you trek towards Phortse Thenga. Spend the night at Phortse Thenga.
  • Day 7: Trek Machhermo
    Enjoy excellent views, down the Valley of Kangtega as you climb towards a ridge. Descend down to a river, follows by a steel climb to the moraine Ngozumpa glacier. Continue trek and reach Machhermo by early noon.
  • Day 8: Trek to Gokyo
    Trek towards the final destination and set up the base camp for 2 nights. Explore and trek around Gokyo to enjoy the magnificent views.
  • Day 9: Explore Gokyo
    Stroll around the lake and hike northwards to explore other sacred lakes. Stay overnight at the base camp in Gokyo.
  • Day 10: Trek to Gokyo Ri
    Gokyo Ri is the highest point in the Gokyo valley and a magnificent mountain view point. Start early, trek and cross the stream at the north end, followed by 2 hours climb to cat’s cradle at the top of the hill. Witness astonishing views of Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse, and Taboche from the summit. Climb down the hill and walk towards Gokyo for night stay at the camp.
  • Day 11: Trek to Dole
    Follow the previous trail and descend down to Dole where you will stay overnight.
  • Day 12: Trek to Namche via Khumjung
    Descend down to Namche bazaar, crossing the Sherpa Villages of Khumjung. Spend the night at Namche.
  • Day 13: Trek to Lukla
    Follow the Dudhkoshi River to reach Lukla, marking the end of the trek. Overnight stay in Lukla will be arranged.
  • Day 14: Fly to Kathmandu
    Take a flight to Kathmandu from Lukla and spend the rest of the day in Kathmandu. Explore the market for shopping and enjoy the farewell dinner at Hotel.
  • Day 15: Departure
    Our staff will drop all the guests at Kathmandu International Airport for departures.
