Trip Overview

Bound by the Dhaulagiri and ChurenHimal ranges, Lower Dolpo is a remote yet spectacular trek in the Himalayan region. With Tibetan styled caves, yak farms, numerous monasteries, and small settlements, one can gain a clear insight into the Tibetan lifestyle on this side of the Himalayas. Numu La and Baga La are the two major high passes on this trek, with a challenging climb. Yet the strenuous trail awards with mesmerizing views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Norbu Kang, and ChurenHimal. Phoksundo Lake is another big attraction of this trek and a night stay at the shore of this lake will offer idyllic scenery to rejuvenate. Observe wild flowers, Himalayan blue sheep, huge birds, and mountain views on the way. Trek through dense pine and cedar forests, meadows, valleys, steep gorges and streams to complete this wonderful trek that would be an experience for a lifetime.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu and Check-in at hotel
    Reach Kathmandu International Airport and our representative will meet you there and transfer you to the Hotel. The rest of the day is free and you can explore the vibrant city. The tour manager will meet you at the Hotel and brief all the participants about the trip, followed by a welcome dinner.
  • Day 2: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj
    Enjoy a one hour scenic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and enjoy the bird’s eye view of the Himalayas. Overnight stay at a hotel in Nepalgunj.
  • Day 3: Fly to Nepalgunj to Juphal/Trek to Juphal to Dunai
    Take a 40 minute flight to Juphal from where you would commence trekking. Pass through the local villages, maize fields and cross a stream. Reach settlement of Kala Gaura and trek on the south bank of stream. Cross RoopGhar, broad flat meadow with pine, and small fields to reach Dunai village. The village has a school, check post and government offices. Stay ata tented camp in Dunai.
  • Day 4 : Trek to Tarakot
    Follow the trail eastward of Bheri River and trek through some small villages with monasteries at Lawan. The trail passes below the field of Tarakot near ChyadaKhola. Reach Tarakot and overnight stay at a campsite in Tarakot.
  • Day 5: Trek to LainiOdar
    Enjoy breakfast and gentle climbtowards south into a side valley. Pass through YalkotKhola and stay on a trail towards the south of river. Climb to 2670 meter as you descend past cypress trees, wide chortens, and high suspension bridge at Laisicap and reach Kanigaon village. Visit Chhandul Gompa and continue trek through cedar forest, steep gorge and three sided tunnel Reach LainiOdar camping site, situated around a waterfall. Spend the night at Lainiodar.
  • Day 6: Trek to Nawarpani
    Start with a stiff climb towards a mini pass and transverse through steep gorge, descending down to TilbaKhola. Climb and descend again to reach ChyugurKhola. Cross a suspension bridge and reach a mule carvan stop of Nawarpani. Overnight stay at a camp will be arranged.
  • Day 7: Trek to DhoTarap
    Re-cross the Tarap Chu at Tal tole and pass through a narrow slot canyon to reach a ridge at Serkam. Descend down to SishulKhola and follow a rocky trail, beneath cliffs, to a bridge. Cross a remote village named Lang and climb towards DhoTarap village. Visit the surrounding monasteries, the RiboBhumpa Gompa, Doro Gompa and Shipchok Gompa. Sleep at a camp in DhoTarap village.
  • Day 8: Trek to Numa La base camp
    Start journey to Numa La base camp via Crystal Mountain School and trek uphill to Gakar village and the Dorje Phurba Gompa. Cross Tarap Chu on a wooden bridge, leading towards Mondo. The trail divides in 2 sections; Upper and Lower Doplo. Follow the southern route towards Tokhyu village and reach Numa la base camp for stay there for a night.
  • Day 9: Trek to Numa La pass and Pelung Tang
    Prepare for a challenging and follow a steep uphill yak trail. Cross several ridges and chortens on the way followed by streams and a glacial bowl. Long climb to a moraine to reach the Numa La pass. Capture majestic views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Norbu Kang, and ChurenHimal from there.Descend along the downstream river and cross through several remote valleys. Pass through the pastures at Pelung Tang and reach the campsite for overnight stay.
  • Day 10: Trek to Baga La pass
    Pass through some streams, meadows and ridge to reach a snowline trail. Enjoy bird’s eye view of Norbung Lang Peak and Phoksundo Lake from the top. Ascend to a moraine marked by a chorten of stones. Descend along a steep trail and stay above the right bank of stream. Enter a huge valley and make final descent to Dajok Tang with large moraines and waterfalls. Enjoy spectacular views of Kagmar at the end of the valley. Sleepover at a tented camp for the night.
  • Day 11: Trek to Phoksundo LakeDescend down to Yak Kharka followed by ascending trail towards Ringmo. Trek through lush pine vegetation, junipers, and cypress with views of huge cliffs and waterfalls. Trek thirty minutes downhill from Ringmo to the campsite at beautiful Phoksundo Lake. Explore the Phoksundo Lake and stay over in a tent.
  • Day 12: Trek to Chepka
    The trail descends down through cedar forests and Palam village. Finally trek through Renje village to reach Chepka. Spend night in a tented camp.
  • Day 13: Trek to Juphal
    Continue with the descending trail through Sankta, Kageni, and SuliKaad village to reach Dunai. Halt at Dunai for sometime and trek for a few more hours to reach Juphal.
  • Day 14: Juphal to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj
    Board a flight and fly to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj. Transfer to hotel and visit markets in leisure time. Farewell dinner in the hotel, with whole group.
  • Day 15: Departure
    Our staff will drop all the guests at Kathmandu International Airport for departures.

Itinerary
