Trip Overview

Climb the valley to the west of Everest to reach Gokyo village and five sacred lakes on the Moraine besides Ngozumpa Glacier. It is a marvelous trek similar to the Everest base camp. You can enjoy meals from local Sherpa villages on this quiet trail. You can enjoy staying in Namche Bazaar and Gokyo Ri with an astonishing view of some of the highest mountain peaks.

Itinerary

  • Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
    Staff will be available at the international airport to welcome you and transfer you to the hotel. You’re free to explore this vibrant city for the day.
  • Day 02: Acclimatization in Kathmandu
    Spend a whole day in exploring Kathmandu also known as the city of glory. This place is an amalgamation of historic palace, cultural, and religious places. We will visit Durbar, which is an epic center of cultural and religious life with old Newari architecture. Explore Hanuman Dhoka, Kal Bhairav, Kasthamandap, Taleju Temple, and Kumari Ghar – a home for a living goddess. Visit one of the Buddhist Stupas - Swayambhunath Stupa. 
  • Day 03: flight for Lukla and start trekking to Phakding
    Start your day with early morning breakfast and flying to Lukla to start trekking to Phakding. Pass through Sherpa villages of Chheplung, Sano, ghat, and Thulo Gumela by descending through trails above the farmland. Here you’ll see a marvelous view of sacred mountains Kumbila and sister summits with shrines, monasteries of Drangdrak Gompa. 
  • Day 04: Trekking to Namche
    Cross through the hamlet of Zamphute while heading towards Namche bazaar to witness dazzling Thamserku glistening in the sun which stays with you for most of the trek. Pass through scenic Sherpa villages, Monjo and Chumoa to reach Utche Choling Gompa. You’ll cross through the Dudhkoshi River to enter into Sagarmatha National Park. After crossing the last village, you’ll reach Namche from where you can enjoy the first look of the Himalayas. 
  • Day 05: Acclimatization in Namche
    Rest to adapt the high altitude. In the meanwhile you can explore villages, houses, snowy mountains of Kwangde, terraced fields, and Khambu peak along with Saturday market where you can see men and women in traditional attire. 
  • Day 06: Trekking to Phortse Thenga
    Pass through rhododendron forest, larger conifers, and Juniper by a climb through steeply out of the valley. This trail passes through yak Kharka and summer settlement and appears beautiful especially in the spring season. Enjoy scenic views of Tawache and Khumbi La throughout the day. 
  • Day 07: trekking to Machhermo
    Start climbing ridge towards Cho Oyu for an excellent view of the valley on both sides and descend to a river. Climb again to the terminal moraine of Ngozumpa glacier through the steep trail. You’ll reach Machherma by early noon. 
  • Day 08: Trekking to Gokyo
    This is the trek to your final destination – Gokyo. Here you’ll camp for 2 nights at base camp to explore this amazing place. 
  • Day 09: Explore Gokyo
    Spend this day exploring sacred lakes by hiking towards the north and then come back for night stay. 
  • Day 10: Trek to Gokyo Ri
    Gokyo Ri is the highest valley trek with astonishing mountain views. Start climbing early in the morning, cross a stream at the north end of the village and then pass through the cat’s cradle of prayer flags on the top of the hills. From the summit, you can witness a panoramic view of Ngozumpa, Cho Oyo, Lhotse, and many more. 
  • Day 11: Trekking to Dole
    By following the same trek, you’ll reach Dole
  • Day 12: Trekking to Namche via Khumjung
    Descend to Namche Bazaar via Sherpa village of Khumjung. Leave the mountains behind. 
  • Day 13: Trekking to Lukla 
    Return to Lukla by following the Dudhkoshi River. It is the last day of your trekking journey. 
  • Day 14: Flight to Kathmandu
    Fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla. You can spend leisure time in buying gifts and in the evening you’ll be invited to join farewell dinner. You may share photos and the experience of the trip. 
  • Day 15: Fly back home 
    If you prefer to stay longer, you may extend your holidays by consulting some short tours to the National Park, mountain biking, rafting, Tibet, India, Bhutan, etc. You may take a flight back to your home.

Good to Know

While staying in Kathmandu enjoy food in the hotel. You’ll get a welcome meal on your day of arrival and farewell dinner on the last day. You have to buy 1 lunch on your own. Taste true authentic Himalayan food prepared by villagers during the trek. You’ll get meals three times a day during the trek.
