Trip Overview

Annapurna region and Tilicho Lake trek is popular for its mountain pass and tour heritage sites. The breathtaking journey takes you through some highest lakes in the world, varied elevations, traditional civilizations, and much more. The landscapes vary from sub-tropical regions to alpine forests, the stunning Thorong La pass (5416m) to snowy barrens. This trek commences at Kathmandu giving you a taste of the cultural side of Nepal. Begin your journey from Dharapani after you take a drive to Chamje. The trek will conclude at Jomsom, from there you take a flight to Pokhara, and then back to Kathmandu. This trek is best suitable for trekkers who want to explore the Annapurna circle and the serene Tilicho Lake.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)

After arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport, the concerned representative will take you to the hotel. You can explore the streets or sleep to get rid of the jet lag.

Day 2: Kathmandu for Trek Preparation and Sight Seeing

Start your guided tour after breakfast, visit historical places like Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu. Meet the trek leader in the evening and stay for the night in Kathmandu.

Day 3: Drive to Chamje (1,400m/4,626ft) 6-7 hours

Start your day early, and travel to Chamche Village from Kathamandu via road. The location has waterfalls. It is a small village at an elevation of 1430m in the Annapurna region. Overnight stay at Chamje will be arranged.  

Day 4: Trek from Chamje to Dharapani (1,960m/6,430ft) 5-6 hours

Begin your trek early in the morning, cross the suspension bridge and reach Tal village. Pass through Kolo village and some of the other villages of Manang district at Dharapani. Overnight at Dharapani.

Day 5: Dharapani to Chame (2,710m/8,891ft) 5-6 hours

On this trekking day to Chame, get remarkable views of Annapurna II, Annapurna IV (7,525m), Lamjung Himal. Overnight stay at Chame headquarters of northern Nepal.

Day 6: Chame to Pisang (3,300m/10,824ft) 5-6 hours

Trek through the valley to get the first views of Paungda Danda rock, then of Annapurna II and Pisang peak. Overnight stay at Pisang.

Day 7: Pisang to Manang (3,500mn/11,482ft) 6-7 hours

There are two routes to Manang from Pisang. Take the one via Geru through Upper Pisang which offers amazing panoramic views of the famous peaks. Also, make a short visit to Barge Monastery in the Manang district. Overnight at Manang.

Day 8: Manang to Khangsar (3,745m/12,286ft) 2-3 hours

Continue your trek to Khangsar, come across Tore monastery, the landscape views of Annapurna range and so on. Overnight stay at Khangsar.

Day 9: Khangsar to Tilicho Base Camp (4,140m/13,583ft) 5-6 hours

The trek commences to Tilicho Base Camp from Kangsar where you will be camping for the night. Climb up a small hill across grassy fields to get the glorious views of the valley.

Day 10: Visit Tilicho Lake (4,949m/16,138ft) and back to base camp 5-6 hours

On this day, get the spectacular views of Khangsar, Nilgiri, Muktinath, and Tilicho peaks. You will also get to see some of the highest lakes in the world. Overnight stay at Tilicho Base Camp.

Day 11: Tilicho Base Camp to Tak Karka (4,040m/13,020ft) 4-5 hours

The trail will lead you to Marsyangdi Valley through the Alpine vegetation. After crossing the bridges over the rivers between Yak Khark and Gumsang, you will reach the Himalayan village of Yak Kharka. Get the amazing views of Annapurna III from here, and you will be staying for the night at Yak Kharka only.

Day 12: Yak Kharka to Thorang Phedi (4,420m/14,501ft) 3-4 hours

Uphill trek to Thorang Phedi, crossing the Ledar village you will reach the last village of Thorong La Pass - Thorang Phedi. All that sweat is worth it for the refreshing views of Mount Syagang, Mount Gudang, Mount Khatungkan, and Thorung Peak. Overnight stay will be at Thorang Phedi, Phedi in Nepalese means ‘the foot of the mountain’.

Day 13: Thorong Phedi to Muktinath (3800m/12,467ft) through Thorong La Pass (5,416m/17,764ft) 7-8 hours

Start your trek early in the morning, and cross one of the highest passes in the world- Thorong La Pass. Witness the Muktinath valley and stay for the night at Muktinath.

Day 14: Muktinath to Jomsom (2,715m/8,910ft) 5-6 hours

At Muktinath, you can explore the Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims, and as the trail extends further, you get the views of Mount Dhaulagiri. Cross the meadows and streams to reach Kagbeni village which also has a small monastery, take your lunch break and then move over the Kali Gandaki valley to Jomsom. Overnight at Jomsom.

Day 15: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara (823m/2700ft) 30 minutes

After your breakfast, fly to Pokhara. Visit the Davis falls, get a reflection of the fishtail mountains and stay for the night at Pokhara.

Day 16: Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu (30 minutes)

Take a short flight back to Kathmandu. Spend your day and rest at the hotel or you can explore the streets of Kathmandu. The farewell dinner will be organized by the host- Alpine Club of Himalaya. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 17: Final Departure

You will be escorted to the Tribhuvan International Airport, 3 hours before your departure. The trekking journey comes to an end here.

Good to Know

The organizer has the absolute authority to either change the itinerary or cancel the trip when it would be necessary to look after your safety. The change in weather conditions, natural disasters, poor health, etc. can become the reasons to pause or stop the trip.
