This trek allows you to witness the highest standing peak of India, Kanchenjunga. The Kanchenjunga trek is designed for skilled adventure seekers who pose refined mountaineering capabilities. The trek is strenuous yet generously rewards the trekkers with spectacular mountain scenery, covered in white snow. Experience remoteness coupled with diverse flora and fauna, rich culture, and chilly weather. This trek is sure to give everyone goosebumps as you cross the five high passes of this trek- Tamo La, Sele La, Sinion La, Mirgin La, and Sinelapche La. You will be staying in tented camps in various villages, base camps, and at the foothills of the majestic Kanchenjunga peak. The area is the homeland to numerous groups such as Buddhists, Hindus, Tibetans, North-eastern, etc allowing you to get familiar with their ethos. Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu and Check-in at hotel
    Reach Kathmandu International Airport and our representative will meet you there and transfer you to the Hotel. The rest of the day is free and you can explore the vibrant city. The tour manager will meet you at the Hotel and brief all the participants about the trip, followed by a welcome dinner.
  • Day 2: Acclimatize in Kathmandu
    We will begin a guided tour of the city after breakfast. Visit the historical and spiritual attractions including Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Monkey Temple, and Buddhist Shrine. In the evening you will meet the trek leaders, who will brief everyone about the upcoming trek.
  • Day 3: Fly to Biratnagar and Drive to Basantpur
    Enjoy early breakfast and leave for Kathmandu Airport to board a flight to Biratnagar. From Biratnagar, there is a small yet dusty drive through a hilly village to Basantpur. We will stay the night in a tented camp.
  • Day 4 : Trek to Chauki
    Begin trekking through rhododendron forests and valleys of Arun Kosi and Tamur Kosi. We will cross several settlements on our way to Door Pani and then the trail go down to Tinjure Phedi. Ascend towards Chauki Village, and we will have to show our TIMS and documents to the police at a check post. We will finally reach Chauki village which lies on a grassy hilltop.
  • Day 5: Trek to Gupa Pokhari
    Today’s trail follows the Milke Danda ridge and will cross some meadows, Lamo Pokhari Lake and a collection of mountain pools. After some ups and downs in the trail, we will reach Gupa Pokhari village, which has a large Tibetan population. Visit a Buddhist shrine on a lake and spend the night at the village in a tented camp.
  • Day 6: Trek to Gurjagaon
    We again follow the Milke Danda range and head northeast towards Tamur Kosi. Hike through rhododendron forest till Akhar Deorali and from there enter a deciduous forest to reach Gurjahaon.
  • Day 7: Trek to Dobhan
    Begin trekking towards Chatrapati village and descend on a rocky trail to Nesum. Further descend to Tamur Kosi, followed by a zig-zag path to a suspension bridge over Maiwa Khola to reach Dobhan. This is a small Tibetan bazar with bamboo shelter. Overnight stay at a tented camp.
  • Day 8: Trek to Mitlung
    Move northeast towards Sakathum and trek through tropical forests and farmhouses. The trail from here would be in a bad condition until a bridge across the Tamur Kosi at Thumma. Follow the eastern bank of the river, through rocky fields to reach Chhetri bazaar at Mitlung.
  • Day 9: Trek to Chirwa
    Continue on the east bank of the river till Sinwa and then enter the narrowing valley. Descend towards a wooden bridge across Thiwa Khola and follow the river to reach Chirwa.
  • Day 10: Trek to Sakathum
    Follow the Tamur Koshi River till the junction with Ghunsa Khola from where we will follow the eastern bank of the river to Chhetri village of Tapethok. We will have to show our permit and TIMS at a checkpoint and go across a bridge to Sherpa villages of Lepsung and Lelep. Following the Tamur River will reach Walunchung Gola, a large village and then we will cross the last suspension bridge of the day to enter Ghunsa valley. Stroll to the riverside camp near Sakathum for an overnight stay.
  • Day 11: Trek to Amjilosa
    We will start on a narrow trail along the northern bank of the river and trek upwards through stone steps to reach a waterfall and hamlet of Ghaiyabari. There is a gentle incline on a grassy slope followed by a descent to the Amjilosa settlement.
  • Day 12: Trek to Gyabla
    Climb over flat ridges and trek through bamboo, rhododendron, and oak forest followed by pastures and waterfalls. Eventually, you will reach Ghunsa Khola from where the trail climbs gently towards Gyabla.
  • Day 13: Trek to Ghunsa
    Drop down into a ravine and cross Fir and Rhododendron forest along yak pastures and potato fields. Reach Phole and trek through a widening valley and dip down again to a riverbed before entering Ghunsa. This is the last village of this trek.
  • Day 14: Trek to Khambchen
    Move north and follow the trail towards a larch and juniper forest along the eastern bank of the river. Cross a sandy, boulder-strewn, and wooden path to reach a stone bridge at Rambuk Khola. Continue on the barren hillside to the Tibetan village of Khambachen, where you will stay overnight at a tented camp.
  • Day 15: Acclimatize in Khambchen
    Adapt to the high altitude and rest at Khambchen. Enjoy superb views of Khabur Peak, Phole Peak and the Kanchenjunga glacier.
  • Day 16: Trek to Lhonak
    Today we will trek on a desolated trail above Khambachen, across the slopes and pastures of Ramtang. The trail will take you through the moraine of Kanchenjunga glacier and a wooden bridge at the Lhonak glacier. Eventually, you will reach an open sandy plain. Stay the night at Lhonak.
  • Day 17: Trek to Pang Pema
    Gradually ascend across the plain, along the moraine and a ridge to reach Pang Pema village. This is the Kanchenjunga Base camp and will spend the night here at a tented camp. The nights are very chilly and cold.
  • Day 18: Trek to Khambchen
    Trek upwards to the north of Pang Pema ridge to reach an epic viewpoint and enjoy mesmeric views of Kanchenjunga, Gimmegela Chuli, and Taple Shikhar. Now we descend and retrace our path to Khambachen.
  • Day 19: Trek to Ghunsa
    Retrace the previous path and trek down to Ghunsa for the night stay.
  • Day 20: Trek to Sele La
    Move south of Ghunsa over the Yamatari Khola towards the two high passes. We will take the lower route from here via Mirgin La and enjoy outstanding views of the peaks. Cross a stream and climb up the ridge to south and witness two of the five passes today. Trek through Tamo La and Sele La pass. We camp for the night at Sele La.
  • Day 21: Trek to Tseram
    Today we will head towards Sinion La, Mirgin La and Sinelapche La. We finally reach Tseram and spend the night at a camp.
  • Day 22: Trek to Torontan
    Walk along Simbua Khola and head towards a steep descending trail below Tseram. Cross a cave shrine and a forest with Spanish moss to finally reach Tsento Kang. Trek through old landslides and rhododendron forests to reach Torontan.
  • Day 23: Trek to Yamphudin
    Retreace the previous trail through Lamite Bhanjyang and Amji Khola, scooting over Dhupi Bhanjyang to reach Yamphudin for night stay.
  • Day 24: Trek to Phumphe
    Trek through Omje Khola and open hillsides to reach Mamankhe Village. Follow a trail with subsequent ups and downs, and rice paddies till Phumphe.
  • Day 25: Trek to LaliKharka
    Today we will trek on a gentle path and cross shades of Pipal trees at Kanjuri along with some farmhouses to reach Lali Kharka.
  • Day 26: Trek to Taplejung
    We leave in the morning and drop down towards Taplegunj through Suketar.
  • Day 27: Fly to Biratnagar and Kathmandu
    We’ve finally completed our trek and we will fly to Biratnagar and take a connecting flight to Kathmandu.
  • Day 28: Departure
    Our staff will drop all the guest at the airport for departures.

Itinerary

  • Day 10: Trek to Sakathum

  • Day 22: Trek to Torontan
