This amazing trip to Jomolhari trek allows you to experience serene, majestic valleys and peaks of Bhutan followed by crystal clear rivers. If you’re lucky, you may get a chance to spot blue sheep in the valley. You will get a chance to explore the pristine forest, meet new people, learn about Bhutanese culture and ancient traditions of crafts and arts while exploring the less traveled areas of Bhutan. You’ll start your journey from charming Paro valley to reach Jomolhaari also known as the ‘Mountain of Goddess’.
Day 1: Arrival
You’ll reach to Paro by airplane and the staff from Bhutan Excursions will pick you from the airport and drop you at your hotel. In the afternoon, you’ll visit Ta – Dzong, built-in 1651and now recognized as a museum. After that, you’ll visit Rinpung which was built in 1646. You’ll stay at Paro in the hotel overnight.
Day 2: Will start hiking towards Tiger’s nest.
You’ll start this day by hiking towards the famous cliff-hermitage also known as Taktsang. The place is beautiful and peaceful by the aura of the monastery and also known as the pilgrimage site of the country. After that, you’ll visit Tiger hill and come back from a different path. You’ll stay overnight at the hotel in Paro.
Day 3: From Gunitsawa to Thangthangka
You’ll get a ride from Paro to Gunitsawa. From there you’ll begin trekking to Pachu through the conifer forest of Jigme Dorji National Park. If the weather is clear, you may enjoy a serene view of the Jhomolhari Mountain. You’ll camp in Thangthangka overnight.
Day 4: From Thangthangka to Base camp
This trek will continue with ascend towards the Pachu valley and you’ll cross an army outpost along with spectacular view of the mountains. You’ll pass through village Soe, Dangochang, and Takethang. You’ll reach Jangothang, a beautiful campsite. You’ll stay at base camp overnight.
Day 5: Stay at base camp trek
You’ll stay at Jangothang for acclimatization. Here you can enjoy the lakes, views of the Jholmhari and maybe some blue sheep in the valley. You’ll stay at base camp overnight.
Day 6: From Base Camp to Lingshi
After hiking for 15 minutes, you’ll have to climb for half an hour to reach Nyilila pass. You can enjoy the view of Mt. Jholmhari, Tsherimgang, and Jichu Drake. You’ll come back down from the different trail to Lingzhi Dzong and stay there overnight in the camp.
Day 7: From Lingshi to Shodu
You’ll start your day by leaving Lingshi and moving towards the Mo Chu River of Punakha till you reach Yale pass. From here you’ll move towards Shodu where you’ll camp overnight.
Day 8: From Shodu to Shomthang
You’ll start trekking towards Lhede La Pass by the less-traveled path. Campsite Shomthang is not far away from here. You’ll camp here overnight.
Day 9: From Shomthang to Nabtsho
You’ll start walking downhill following the trail used by herders and yaks into Takeethang valley. You’ll cross the woods to reach Nabtsho. Here you’ll stay overnight at the camp.
Day 10: From Nabtsho to Dungtsho
You’ll start your trek towards Yusu La from the previous day path. From Yusu La you’ll follow a steep path and descend towards Rangtha Ja. After that, start ascending towards Dungtsho La. After half an hour, you’ll reach Dungtsho, and stay here overnight.
Day 11: From Dungtsho to Thimpu
Your day will start by climbing towards Phume La. After this, you’ll start walking towards the edge of the ridge to reach Chorten. From here you’ll do downhill walk to reach Thimpu. Here you’ll stay overnight.
Day 12: Stay at Thimpu
Thimpu is home to the royal family of Bhutan. It is also the headquarters for international development projects. You’ll get a chance to visit various monuments like National Memorial Chorten, Buddha Dordenma Statue, Motithang Takin Preserve, and many other places like Weekend market, weaving center, handicrafts emporium, and Tashichhodzong. You’ll stay here at Thimpu overnight.
Day 13: Departure
After breakfast in the hotel you’ll get a ride to the airport for catching a flight back home. You’ll be dropped off to the airport 3 hours before so that you have plenty of time to fulfill all the necessary formalities.
