Trip Overview

This trek itinerary is the ideal opportunity for all wanderlust souls to experience the fascinating culture of Bhutan. Taking the participants to an off-the-beaten-path, the trek offers some spectacular views of the stunning landscapes of Bhutan. This trekking route was first discovered by Bhutan Excursions in the year 2006 and is now a well-know trekking trail in the country. From ancient Dzongs and monasteries to snow-clad Himalayas to pristine valleys and more, the trek is definite to give a stunning experience to all. 

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival

You’ll arrive through the country’s only airport which is in the beautiful Paro valley. After completing all the formalities at the airport, staff from Bhutan Excursions will receive you and drop you at the hotel. Paro is the home to some old monasteries and temples. You will visit Rinpung Dzong and Kyichu Lhakhang in the Paro. Rinpung Dzong was built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. It stands on the hill above the Paro Township. It is also known as the fortress of the heap. Kyichu Lhakhang is the oldest temple in Bhutan. It was built in the 7th century by the Tibetan Emperor Songtsen Gampo.

Day 02: Hiking up to Tiger’s nest

You’ll start hiking towards Tiger’s nest. The trail of this beautiful monastery follows through a beautiful pine forest. After visiting the tiger’s nest, you’ll go off the track to see temples above the hill. This place is so peaceful. After coming back from the hike, you’ll get a ride up to Thimpu. There you’ll stay at the hotel overnight.

Day 03: Excursion in Thimpu

You’ll visit the following places in Thimpu.

Motithang Takin Preserve: It is a mini zoo across the road. You may visit it in the morning as the Takin’s come near the fence to feed. You may take advantage of the few holes to take photographs.

Weaving center: In the Bhutanese culture, textiles are considered as the expression of presenting spirituality and art. Here you can find unique patterns and designs. You can purchase readymade clothes from here and may see weavers at work.

National Memorial Chorten: The third king of the Bhutan Jigme Dorji Wangchuck built a symbol for peace and prosperity. It was completed in 1974, and after his death, it was known as a monument to peace.

Archery Ground: Archery is the national sport of Bhutan. You can enjoy weekend matches. Archers practice in the afternoon for various competitions; it is a very colorful and picturesque event.

After this, you’ll get a ride up to Chuzomtoe. It is the starting point of the trek. You’ll do camping here overnight.

Day 04: Chuzomtoe to Tsendu La

You’ll enjoy sunrise in the clear sky over the eastern Himalayas. You’ll pass through beautiful meadows, treeless peaks, yaks herders and then some thick alpine forests of firs to reach Tsendu La. It is a beautiful meadow at the top of the ridge with amazing views of valley underneath. You’ll stay here overnight in the camp.

Day 05: Tsendu La to Pangka La

You’ll start the day with late breakfast and start descending towards Dongle La Pass. This is a long trek between Ha and Paro valleys. After passing this route, the trail goes slightly up towards the alpine forest till you reach Pangka La. You’ll stay here overnight at the camp.

Day 06: accumutilization at teh Pangka La

You’ll wake up early to enjoy the sunrise amidst the Himalayas. You’ll experience solitude in a heaven-like place. You’ll spend your day admiring the beauty of nature. You’ll camp here overnight.

Day 07: Pangka La to Chele La

After breakfast, you’ll start trekking down through yak’s trail. After that you’ll start climbing down to another abandoned mule track at Dzongle La. After crossing the rocky ridge, you’ll reach the finishing point which is marked with prayer flags known as Chele La. You’ll stay at a hotel in Paro overnight.

Day 08: Departure

After breakfast in the hotel, you’ll get a drive to the airport so that you can catch the flight on time. Bhutan Excursions will bid you farewell.

Good to Know

Accommodation

You’ll stay at a hotel in Thimpu and Paro on the day of arrival and departure. During the trek, you’ll stay at camps to experience the beauty of Bhutan and the Himalayas at its best. In the hotel, you’ll get twin sharing bed with the attached washroom facility. Do not expect very high-class services during camping days.  

Food

You’ll get a breakfast facility at the hotel in Paro and Thimpu. Also on the day of sightseeing in the Thimpu, you may enjoy the taste of local cuisine in the market. During the camp, all the meals are provided by Bhutan Excursions three times a day along with snacks and tea or coffee of your choice. However, it is suggested to keep water purifying pills with you as you may not get bottle drinking water here. Bhutan believes in eco-friendly methods to preserve its nature. You may keep light snacks with you.

Physical fitness

You need to be physically fit for going on this trek. You may start practicing swimming, jogging, or light exercises to develop a habit of walking during the trek. It doesn’t mean you must be an athlete for this trek. It is necessary to keep yourself physically fit.
