Trip Overview

Ganden-Samye is the most popular and beautiful trekking destinations in Central Tibet. Come, and become a part of this interesting expedition. It’s a 10-days trek in which 4-5 days are invested to pass through Shuga-La (5,250m). The trekking will commence from Ganden monastery and end in Yarlung valley, where you can also visit the Samye Monastery and Yumbulhakhang. Explore Lhasa while you acclimatize with the surroundings. 

Ganden to Samye trek is a demanding trek that crosses two passes over 5000m it connects Tibet’s most cherished monasteries. This adventure is an appealing journey to the mountains of Tibet. The tranquility in the atmosphere of Buddhism dominated Tibet, makes it a memorable trek.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Flight from Chengdu to Lhasa
    Transfer to airport, and fly to Tibet. From the Gonggar Airport, you will be picked up and transferred to Lhasa (3,650m).
  • Day 2: Lhasa
    Visit Potala, Jokhang temple, the center of sacred Tibetan Buddhism.
  • Day 3: Lhasa
    Visit Drepung monastery (the holy land of Gelukpa sect) where the Dalai Lama resided. Also visit Sera monastery (a Buddhist seminary) - the court of wild rose.
  • Day 4: Flight from Lhasa to  Ganden (B/L,D)
    Drive to Gandan monastery (45kms from Lhasa), which is the first Gelukpamonastery. Spend the night at a guesthouse.
  • Day 5: Ganden to Samye trekking (B,L,D)
  • Day 6: Ganden to Samye trekking (B,L,D)
  • Day 7: Ganden to Samye trekking (B,L,D)
  • Day 8: Ganden to Samye trekking (B,L,D)
  • Day 9: Arrival at Samye monastery-Tsedang (B,L)
    Visit Samye monastery, then drive to Tsedang and visit Yongbulahlang Palace.
  • Day 10: Flight Tsedang to Chengdu
    Take an early morning flight to the airport and fly to Chegdu.

Good to Know

The best time to enjoy the trek is from mid-May to mid-October. Summers can be wet but the scenery on the mountains is at its greenest, as wildflowers cover the alpine meadows. For the experienced trekkers, going for a trek in colder months when there is snow, wouldn’t be a hassle either.
