Trip Overview

Tapovan is an amazing lush green meadow region at the foot of the holy Mount Shivaling. This region is located near the Uttarkashi district which is a centuries old holy destination for many Hindu religious people of India. Once in the state, you will find that the nearest town to where the expedition starts is the Uttarkashi town. Here you will find the last ATM point in case you would like to take some cash out before you head to the trek.

This amazing trek leads you through a trail that is surrounded by huge boulders, plain areas at a hilly region; and at some points if you are lucky and the weather is clear, you will be able to witness the surrounding Himalayan mountain peaks and some glacial areas that are absolutely breathtaking. Some of the most wonderful glaciers that you will cross and experience are the Meru, Kirti and the Gangotri glacier which is of mythological significance to the Hindus.

The climax of the entire expedition is when we reach Tapovan which is a meadow land and stands at the foot of the Mount Shivaling. This also offers a mesmerizing view of the mountains bordered by the Kedar Dome and the Bhagirathi peaks.

In this region, you may come across many blue mountain goats frolicking and running around the boulders and cliffs. The best time to visit Tapovan is in the months of May and June; and September through October. These are the months when the weather is clear and the views are unrestricted.
