Everest base camp is one of the best places to go for trekking. The trek commences with a flight to Lukla. There are several tea houses along the way where you could rest for a couple of hours. Itinerary

Day1: Advent in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our airport representative at the Tribhuwan International Airport. A private vehicle is arranged to drop you at the hotel. You can take rest or meet us at the office for inquiry and to know the details and arrangement of the trek. Stay at the hotel for the night.

Day2: Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and trek to Phakding

We drive to the domestic airport terminal after breakfast early in the morning. On the flight to Lukla, you can see the amazing sunrise on the snow-capped mountains, which is just splendid. After 40 min at Lukla, you arrive at Tenzing-Hillary Airport which is the gateway to the Himalayas. The trekking starts from the airport itself after meeting with our crew there from where Phakding is a brief walk. We rest at Phakding for the day and spend the night at a lodge or tea house. 

Day3: From Phakding to Namche bazaar

We start early in the morning and pass through beautiful pine forest, views of Mt. Thamserku and Dudh Koshi River along the route. After a few dwellings, we reach a check post which is the entrance of the Sagarmatha National Park. After walking a little further there is the junction of Dudh Koshi River and Bhote Koshi River and from there we take an uphill climb to Namche Bazaar where you can get an excellent view of Mount Everest and ridges of Mount Nuptse and Mount Lhotse. We stay for the night in a lodge or teahouse.

Day4: Accommodation at Namche and rest day

Being the biggest settlement in the Khumbu region, it is filled with ATMs, restaurants, internet cafe, etc. Even it is a rest day to get familiarized with the area, we go for a short hike towards Thame or Khunde viewpoint. We will take a tour around the area and also visit the Tourist Visitor Centre where we can get information about Everest climbers, Sherpa people, and their customs and culture, the flora and fauna of the region. Stay for the night at a lodge or teahouse.

Day5: From Namche to Phorse village

Breakfast in Namche and the trek to Phorse begins. You can reach Mugla Pass and take a glimpse of Mount Khumbu, Mount Ama Dablam and Mount Thamserku. Then we descend to the Dudh  Koshi and after crossing a bridge we pass through a forest of rhododendron, oak, and pine to reach Dudh Koshi River. Stay for the night at a lodge or teahouse.

Day6: From Phorse village to Dingboche

Next day we start the trek to Dingboche with a trip to the biggest Buddhist Monastery in the region. The trek goes past through a large village of upper Pangboche and further through villages of Tsuro Wog, Shomare and Orsho. You can see the magnificent view of towering mountains of Taboche, Mount Ama Dablam, Mount Nuptse, Mount Cholatse and Mount Thamserku while passing through Khumbila Khola Valley to the ridge top. On moving ahead we pass a trail through Imja Khola to reach Dingboche. Stay for the night at a lodge or teahouse.

Day7: From Dingboche to Duglha

We start our climb from Duglha through Khumbu  Khola Valley and along the way we see Dusa the Yak herders place, Phulong Karp which was the first camp of the successful Everest Expedition in 1953 AD. View of Mount Pumori is overwhelming and you could also enjoy Chola Lake. Stay for the night at a lodge or teahouse.

Day8: From Duglha to Lobuche

Walking up the steep terminal moraine of the Khumbu glaciers during the trek you can see slopes with boulders where the ascent to Chupki Lhara begins. There are many collections of stones with prayer flags along the way used as memories to Scott Fischer an American mountaineer and Babu Chhiri Sherpa who is the 10-time summiteer, Nepalese citizen. The view of Khumbutse, Mount Pumori, Mount Lingtse and Mount Mahalangur lingers as the trail crosses Khumbu glaciers where you can experience slight indications of altitude sickness. Stay for the night at a lodge or teahouse.

Day9: From Lobuche to Gorakshep to Mount Everest Camp and back to Gorakshep

As the most important day of the Mount Everest base camp trekking, you are in for a treat. You can witness a 360 panoramic view of snow-capped mountains at Thangma Riju. You cannot see Mount Everest from here but you can view Mount Nuptse and Mount Pumori very prominently. After climbing uphill through the terrain of Changri glacier you can see below the grey grassy land of Kalapathar. Stay overnight at a lodge or teahouse.

Day10: From Gorakshep to Kalapathar to Pheriche

The day starts much early in the morning as the trekkers get to witness a glimpse of Mount Everest when the dusk develops into orange bright and sunlight of the day hits the surface. It is the climax of the trip, a gift from Mother Nature to behold. You can get a view of peaks like Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse. It is recommended that during the climb to Kalapathar you can take a moment, catching your breath and take photographs as a souvenir. You can take a look at the scenic view of the Himalayas at Gorakshep. After lunch, we climb down to Pheriche. Stay overnight at a lodge or teahouse.

Day11: From Pheriche to Namche 

The descent goes on back to the terminal moraine at Duglha through James route passing through the village of Orsho and Pheriche along with Shomare. You can explore the oldest monastery in the region which is known for the legend of the repulsive snowman who stored scalp and bones of Yeti, on reaching Pangboche village. Moving ahead over the bridge above Dudh Koshi River and Dudh Koshi ravine, there is a descent through pine forest we will reach Sansa trail junction. The trail to Namche Bazaar continues after lunch where we walk on past admiring Mount Ama Dablam, Mount Lhotse and the tip of Mount Everest and Tengboche. Stay for the night at a lodge or teahouse.

Day12: From Namche to Phakding and to Lukla

The last day of the trek continues downhill where the trail is steep rocky terrain and trekkers need to walk in a slow controlled and balanced manner until we reach the suspension bridge over Dudh Koshi passing through the open plain and rhododendron forest with the view of the mountains alongside. After reaching Lukla we spent the night there at a lodge or teahouse.

Day13: Back to Kathmandu

We fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla and on reaching Kathmandu you will have plenty of time for shopping and sightseeing of the city. The evening is for celebration for the successful completion of Everest Base Camp Trip. Spend the night at the hotel.

Day14: Departure and on to the next program

One final day in Nepal and for one last time you can go shopping and enjoy the food and the culture of the city. We leave for Tribhuwan International Airport on the scheduled flight timing.

Good to Know

The flight to Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu gets delayed or may even be canceled because of unfavorable weather conditions. You must be prepared for long waits in such cases at Kathmandu or Lukla airport as this can happen anytime either at the start or end of the trek or even both. We try our best to avoid such delays and arrange flights for customers under such circumstances. We organize helicopter rescue under such issues, upon the request of the customers if it is available. The charge for helicopter is around 300 USD and can carry up to 4-5 people per flight. You still have to be prepared for possible cancellation or delays as it can happen anytime. If possible, it comes with some extra buffer days (1-2) days at the end of the trip to accommodate such delays. If everything goes smoothly you still have that extra buffer day and can engage in optional activities which can be arranged by Green Valley Nepal Treks upon request. Optional activities include adventure sports, visiting places or landmark of your choice, shopping, etc.
