3 Nights 4 Days Taktsang Monastery Bhutan Trip
Trip Overview
On a 4-day tour of Bhutan, you will catch sight of popular Bhutanese landmarks in Paro and Thimpu. While in Paro, you can visit Kichu Lhakhang, the oldest Bhutanese monastery before hiking to the extraordinary Taktsang (Tigers Nest) Monastery the next day. In Thimpu, you will observe some of the popular sites of Bhutan including the Memorial Chorten, nunnery Temple, Bhutanese traditional painting school, folk heritage museum and more.
At a glance
Bhutan, a landlocked country, remained isolated from the rest of the world until1960s. To visit this country and observe its prosperous culture, which the government has carefully endeavored to preserve over the years, is quite rewarding.
The flight from Kathmandu in Druk Air marks the beginning of this interesting journey. En-route, you can relish on wonderful mountain views. Once you reach Paro, a guide from Bhutan will welcome you. Then tour begins with a visit to Kichu Lhakhang, the oldest Monastery of Bhutan along with a glimpse of Paro town. The next day we hike to Taktsang Monastery view point. In the afternoon, you will make a visit to the National Museum and drive to Thimpu. The third day is spent on Thimpu sightseeing which includes everything from paying a visit to arts and crafts school to looking at Memorial Chorten, watching the beautiful multi-storied stupa et cetera. A flight back to Kathmandu from Paro is scheduled the next morning.
Itinerary
Day 1 :Kathmandu/PARO (L,D)Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, welcome by Green Valley Nepal Treks’ airport representative, transfer to Druk Airline check in counter two hours before the departure time. Next, flight for Paro Bhutan from Bangkok. En-route, you can relish the scenic beauty of Great Himalayas as you proceed to Bhutan. After you reach Paro, a guide from Bhutan will welcome you to his kingdom.
The hotel is about 10-15 minute drive from the airport. Once you check in, lunch will be served and afterwards a visit to Kichu Lhakhang which is the oldest Monastery in Bhutan is scheduled. You will also have a glimpse of Paro town. Overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 2 :PARO, EXCURSION TO TAKTSANG MONASTERY (B,L,D)Hiking toTaktsang Monastery view point. Taktsang (Tiger’s nest), built around a cave where Guru Rimpoche (Padmasambhawa) mediated, attached to a cliff at 3,000 feet above the valley floor. Locals regard this place holy, but tourists visit this place for a kick, good exercise and fascinating journey. There is a popular saying that Guru Rimpoche flew to the site on the back of a tigress from Tibet and meditated in the cave for three months. In the afternoon, we visit the National Museum and then drive to Thimpu, which is the capital city of Bhutan. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 3 :THIMPHU - PARO (B/L/D)The whole day is spent observing important places in and around Thimphu Valley. You can shop for world’s most beautiful postage stamps, collector’s items and postcards at the marked price from the general post office that is just next to Bhutan National Bank. You can also pay a visit to arts and crafts school where young children can be seen working. Pay a visit to Traditional Medicine Institute where ancient healing arts are still practiced. Drop in to see Memorial Chorten that was constructed in 1974 in memory of honourable Late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, who is also called the Father of Modern Bhutan. Don’t miss out the beautiful multi-storied stupa that explains the significance of Tantric Buddhism. Have a look at traditional paper making from Daphnia and Edgeworthia shrub to the finished products and buy some of the wonderful writing sets from the factory. Visit the botanical garden (zoo) where you can have an insight of Yak and Takin, the national wild animals of Bhutan. You can also drive up to view point and go for hiking beyond to see the unambigous picture of Thimpu Valley. Walk down town and pass by the Handicrafts Emporium and other Arts and Crafts stores to purchase amazing kiras that can be used as bed covers or wall decoration, jewelries and many more. In the late afternoon, we head back to Paro and spend the night there.
Day 4 :PARO/Katmandu (B)After breakfast in the hotel, head to the Paro Airport to fly back to Kathmandu. You can take elongate your stay and join another trip from Green Valley Nepal Treks.
