Situated at an altitude of 5,230m near the Kankul Pass, Kakbhusandi Lake is a picturesque green lake and is a core center of the travel enthusiasts of the world. Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun to Joshimath

If the drive starts early, you can reach Dehradun by evening. The distance is 293km and the duration is 8-9 hours. The route crosses the popular destinations like Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, and Chamoli. 

Day 2: Joshimath to Ghangaria via Govindghat

Early morning you’ll be driven to Govindghat and after that, start your trek after crossing the Alaknanda River over a bridge at Govindghat. Now, from there, you would walk towards the Bhyundar valley traversing across the dense woods and ethnic hamlets. You can witness the alluring waterfalls, lush green landscape all around. The slope of the trekking trail is moderate. This trek to Ghangaria takes about 4-5 hours as it is a 14km trek. You can also hire a mule to reach the point. Overnight at the rest house of Ghangria

Day 3: Ghangaria to Valley of flowers and then back to Ghangaria

Your trek begins with a short and steep ascent towards the valley. The slope of the trail is moderate and the landscape is mesmerizing. Next, you would witness the panoramic views of meadows carpeted with many alpine flowers, beautiful streams, and snow-clad mountains. You would also come across various species such as Brahma Kamal, Anemone marigold and many others. You can spend some time here witness other vantage points. Towards the afternoon, get back to Ghangaria and Overnight stay at a rest house in Ghangria. 

Day 4: Ghangaria– Bhyundar Village 

After breakfast, you begin your journey for Bhyundar Village. This might take 3-4 hours of continuous trekking. Stay Overnight at a camping in Bhyundar Village. 

Day 5: Bhyundar Village – Gairgilla – Samartoli

It is a 5-6 hours trek, from Bhyundar to Samartoli via Gairgilli. Once you reach the campsite, you would be served a delicious dinner. Then, stay overnight in Samartoli at a camp. 

Day 6: Samartoli-Dang Khara – Raj Kharak

This might take approximately 5-6 hours of continuous trekking. After you are done with your breakfast, begin your trek to Raj Kharak, which is situated at a height of 3900m. The trekking trail passes through Dang Khara, and from there, start moving towards Raj Kharak. As soon as you are there, rest after dinner. 

Day 7: Raj Kharak – Kankul Khal-Kakbhushandi Tal 

This would take around 7-8 hours, trekking. On this day you trek to the summit of Kakbhushandi Tal which is situated at a height of 5230m. Now, reach the campsite and then overnight stay. 

Day 8: Kakbhushandi Tal – Brahmahi Khal – Jhari Kharak 

This would take 6-7 hours and then you start the trek after breakfast. Descend from Kagbhushandi Tal to Brahmani Tal. The trekking trail is full of huge boulders, stones and is challenging. You have to walk for 6-7 hours, to reach the campsite. Then, Overnight stay at Jhari Kharak. 

Day 9: Jhari Kharak to Faraswan Pass to Painka Road and then to Vishnuprayag 

Begin your trek from Jhari Kharak to Vishnu Prayag via Faraswan Pass. This road would lead you to Painka Road, from there, trek to Vishnuprayag. Then, drive 2 hours, to reach Joshimath, stay in a guest house. 

Day 10: Drive from Joshimath - Dehradun

7 hours drive from Joshimath to Dehradun, end of the trip.

  • Rent of the trekking shoes is Rs 200 per day. This charge is applicable irrespective of the fact that it is worn or not
  • The availability of the shoes would be confirmed by us
  • The ten for the walking stick is Rs. 50 per day of the trekking
  • Facility of lodging in Dehradun
  • Your luggage with mass should not be more than 12kg per bag per person
  • The porters and mules could carry your bag at Rs 300 per day per bag

Good to Know

To be a part of this trek, one needs a moderate level of fitness and proper exercises regularly. The minimum age to participate in this trek is 14 years. Carry with yourself essentials like woolen clothing, downjacket, windproof and waterproof jackets, trekking trousers, etc. Also carry your own first-aid box for all your required medications.
