Trip Overview

Situated at an altitude of 4,750m in the Ghrawal Region of the Himalayas, Kedartal or Shiva’s lake presents alluring, picturesque and captivating scenarios of nature. The enchanting lake is fed by the snows of sky-towering, snow carpeted mountains such as Mount Thalaysagar, Mount Bhrigupanth, Meru and many others. Quench your thirst from the crystal blue lake, as it gives you the purest and coolest drinking water. The holy city and the origin of the River Ganges- Gangotri presents an amazing picture of Yatra sessions, beautiful and fascinating temples, crowded markets and hub of sadhus and sadhvis.

Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun - Gangnani - drive to Gangotri 

First, you reach Dehradun and then a drive to the beautiful place called Gangnani via Uttarkashi. Gangnani is popular for its amazing hot-spring baths. Then, the drive can also continue till Gangotri (not necessarily) then night stay in guesthouse. 

Day 2: Gangnani- Gangotri- Bhoj Kharak (3,780m)

As soon as you are done with your breakfast, drive to Gangotri crossing the alluring ethnic villages. Then, after you reach Gangotri, you get to visit astonishing and beautiful temples. After that, the Bhoj Kharak trek begins, crossing the steep slopes and forests and then finally reaching the Kedar Gorge for camping. Approximately 5-6 hours trek to the astounding beauty- Kedar Ganga.

Day 3: Bhoj Kharak - Kedar Kharak 

Traverse through captivating birch forest, before departing from the tree line and arriving at the camp. The Bhrigupanth peaks present a picturesque scene and then moving towards the meadows where shepherds come to graze their goats and ships presenting a beautiful backdrop. 

Day 4: Kedar Kharak to Kedartal

This 4-5 hours strenuous trail is a difficult one as it is full of boulders and stones. Beguiling, views of snow-carpeted Thalaysagar just behind the captivating glacial lake. Thalyasagr and Bhrigupanth are a trekker’s favorite destination as they are beautiful, exhilarating and challenging. 

Day 5: Rest in Kedartal 

To enjoy the enchanting and pristine scenarios, you must spend some quality time in Kedartal. Be ready to wake up early in the morning to witness the fascinating views of sunset and its reflections from the beautiful peaks.

Day 6: Kedartal- Gangotri 

Trek to Gangotri, and then rest in a guesthouse.

Day 7: Gangotri to Dehradun (drive)

Last day, drive back to Dehradun

  • Accommodation facility in Dehradun
  • Personal luggage – the mass of the bags must not exceed more than 12kg per person 
  • Mules and porters can carry it @Rs.300 per bag, per day

The trekking would require some of the essentials items that you are not supposed to forget. Make sure you do pack your trekking waterproof boots, cotton clothes, water bottles and sunglasses.
