Trip Overview

Witness a scenic trek to the mysterious Roopkund Lake and learn more about the history of this famous lake. It is believed that the alpine conditions of the location have preserved the remains of some soldiers, and skeleton remains can be seen when the snow wears off. This magnificent trek will unveil beautiful scenic views of the snow-covered Trishul and Nanda Ghunti. The trek begins from the beautiful meadow of BedniBugyal and goes through Bhagguwa Basa, followed by the Roopkund Lake. Discover exotic species for flora, including the red flower and the Brahma Kamal. Drive through Devaprayag and Karnaprayag to witness the gorgeous confluence of the Alakananda and Mandakini rivers. Itinerary

  • Day 1: Drive from Dehradun to Karnaprayag and Lohajung
    We will begin the journey early with a long drive towards Devaprayag. We will make a halt at Kaudiyala for breakfast and move further to visit Rudraprayag. Our second stop will be at Karnaprayag, where we will have lunch and continue to our final destination Lohajung. We will reach Lohajung by evening and spend the night in a guest house.
  • Day 2: Lohajung to Didna
    Today will be our first day of the hike that will take us to a beautiful village named Didna. Descend the valley and reach the river bed of Neelganga. We will have to trek for around 9 km and cross a ridge to reach Didna. The trail to Didna is filled with beautiful flora, rhododendron trees, and distinct red flowers.
  • Day 3: Didna to Bedini Bugyal
    Today’s trek will be approximately 11 km, and we will go around the edge of the ridge through a less gradient to reach the destination. Ali Bugyal is a huge meadow that comes on the way, and we will have to cover its entire length to reach our destination. Bedini Bugyal is an alpine meadow and has one of the best campsites in the Garhwal Himalayas.
  • Day 4: Bedini Bugyal to Patar Nauchani
    We will begin today’s trek with ease as we have only 6 km to cover. Half of the trail to Patar Nauchani will be visible due to the elevation in the first half of the trek. After the first half of the trek, we will be able to see the stunning snow-covered Trishul and Nanda Ghunti. The second half of the trail slightly descends and will take us to Patar Nauchani campsite.
  • Day 5: Patar Nauchani to Bhagguwa Basa
    After having breakfast, we will begin the trek to Bhagguwa Basa. The trail will be characterized by a variety of flowers, including the rare Brahma Kamal that is only found at 14,000-15,000 feet altitude. After 5 km of the total trek, we will finally reach our campsite at Bhagguwa Basa.
  • Day 6: Bhagguwa Basa to Roopkund Lake and back to Bedini Bugyal
    Today’s trek will be quite strenuous as we will have to cover around 16 km in total. We begin early to reach Roopkund Lake, where the picturesque scenery will be waiting for us. Trishul and Nandghunti will be clearly visible from here. We will trek back to Bedini Bugyal and spend the night there.
  • Day 7: Bedini Bugyal to Wan and Lohajung
    Set out towards Wan, from where we will board a private vehicle for a drive to Lohajung. We will begin the trek to Wan and pass through dense rhododendron forests, followed by a descent to Gharoli Patal and a river stream. Climb up to reach the wan village and begin a 17 km drive to Lohajung. We will spend the night in a guest house at Lohajung.
  • Day 8: Lohajung to Dehradun
    After enjoying breakfast, we will return to Mundoli and drive back to Rudraprayag. Once again, we will witness the confluence of Mandakini and Alakananda on our way to Dehradun.

Good to Know

This trek is moderate in terms of difficulty and can be done by anyone over 12 years of age. Apart from carrying a personal first-aid kit, it is also recommended to carry proper winter essentials, personal ID, etc. so as to avoid any sort of hassle during the trek.
