Trip Overview

On one side there is the Naggar village of Kullu valley and on the other side Malana village of Malana valley - Chanderkhani is known as the mountain pass through geography books. It’s a mountain ridge you can trek up to the top and then cross it. It is surrounded by mesmerizing beauty, 360 panoramic views of twin peaks and Parvati and Kullu valley.

Itinerary

Day 01: Manali to Rumsu

You’ll be driven to Naggar village at the bank of the river Beas. Get a chance to explore ancient temples, Nagar castle, the art gallery of Russian painter Roerich, and Tripurasundri Temple at Nagar Valley. From here we’ll start walking up the steep trail till the village Rumsu. It is a small village with wooden huts. We will cross through it to reach Rumsuthach campsite. 

Day 02: Rumsu to Chiklani

Cross through oak, pine, poplar, rhododendron, and meadows of wildflower bushes to reach Chiklani. Stay overnight in a camp by an open meadow just below the Chanderkhani pass. 

Day 03: Chiklani to Nagruni crossing through Chanderkhani Pass

You’ll climb the Chanderkhani Pass. It is the highest contour that leads to the highest point, which remains snowy for the entire year. From the highest point of this mountain, you can see peaks of Lahoul and Kullu. You may spend some time here and after that cross the mountain to reach Nagruni village. Stay overnight in the camp. 

Day 04: from Nagruni to Malana and drive back to Manali. 

Start crossing Nagruni to reach Malana village. It will take four hours. Malana is popular for its reserved social and cultural set up. This place has a unique and the oldest republic administration system. After passing through Malana village trek, you’ll reach the main road down on the riverside. From here vehicles will pick you to drop off at Manali.

  • Accommodation on twin/triple sharing basis in the tents
  • Sleeping bags, dining tent, foam mattresses, and toilet tents
  • Guide trained for high altitude trekking
  • Trained high altitude field staff
  • Taxi from Manali to Rumsu on arrival day and back
  • Mules/porters for carrying personnel luggage. It must not be more than 10 kg.

Good to Know

Food
Get a chance to taste authentic Himalayan food. Meals are vegetarian and provided three times a day. You’ll get freshly cooked nutritious meals during the trek. Breakfast on the day of arrival and dinner on the day of departure is not included. You may carry some packaged food with you to eat as a snack during the trek. 

Accommodation 
Accommodate in twin/triple sharing alpine tents during the trek. You’ll get a separate tent for the toilet. Sleeping bags and foam mattresses will be provided to ensure comfort. The dining tent will be there if a group has more than 4 people. Sleeping bags will be provided if you want, you may carry your own. 

Physical fitness
It is a moderate trek. You need to be physically fit for going to this trek. It is suggested to start mild jogging, swimming and light exercises before going to this trek. This trek includes light climbing and walks on steep paths.
