Trip Overview

Druk Path Trek is one of the shortest and beautiful treks in Bhutan. In this wonderful trekking trail, you would come across astonishing natural landscape, amidst the blue pine woods, astounding ridges, and flaccid lakes. This trek also invites you to witness the wonderful hamlets of ancient times such as Lhakhangs, Dzongs and other wonderful villages. Witness the tranquil scenarios of Jimiling Lake, fir, blue pine, and dwarf rhododendrons. It also lets you witness the outstanding scenarios of Mount Gangkar Puensum, which is the highest unscaled peak in the world.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at the Paro International Airport and Cultural Sightseeing

As soon as you reach the Paro Valley, you would come across the spectacular views of the Valley. The driver and the tour guide will welcome you at the airport and then drive to the hotel. Towards the afternoon, you would witness the stunning views of valley by exploring the valley side. On this day, you would come across many important tourist spots such as the National Museum and Paro Dzong. Then, drive north towards the Paro town, and then visit the Drugyel Dzong. If the weather is clear, you can also witness the charming scenarios of Mount Jomolhari. 

Day 2: Hiking to the Taktsang Monastery 

Another amazing destination is the Tiger’s nest. You will drive up to the monastery base, and then prepare yourself for an exciting two hours trek. On your way up to the cafeteria, you would be served refreshments. From that point, you can check out a close view of the Tiger’s nest which is roosted on a cliff. After a short break, you are supposed to continue your hike. As soon as you reach the monastery, you can roam around the holy place. After the exploration, descend towards the cafeteria, there only you would be served lunch. As soon as you are done with your lunch, get back to the base and then start moving towards the hotel.

Day 3: Paro – Jili Dzong 

You will begin your trek from Paro and then move towards Jili Dzong. The trekkers would climb up the valley and then move towards the campsites. If the weather is favorable, you can also witness the clear and spectacular views of the beautiful Paro Valley and Jomolhari Mountain. On your first day of trekking, you are expected to cover 7 kilometers in approximately 5 hours. You would spend your first night in a camp in Jili Dzong and altitude of the camp would be 3480 meters. 

Day 4: Jili Dzong – Jangchulakha 

On the second day of your trekking, you will continue the gradual climb to the alpine forests and rhododendron forests. Just at the campsite, you would meet the yak herders. On this day, the trekkers will cover 10 kilometers in 5 hours. The altitude of the camp would be 3770 meters. 

Day 5: Jangchulakha - Jimelangtso 

The trail follows the ridge, and if the weather is favorable, then you can also witness the stunning views. The campsite is just beside the Jimelangtso Lake. This lake is popular for its trout. Trekkers are expected to walk 4 hours to cover at least 11 kilometers. The altitude of the camp would be 3970 meters. 

Day 6: Jimelangtso – Simkotra 

The trail would take you to Simkotra, across the rhododendron trees and beautiful scenarios. You would also come across the campsites of the yak herders. On the Simkotra Lake, the campsite would be closed. The trekkers would walk for 11 kilometers in about 4 hours. The altitude of the camp would be 4110 meters. 

Day 7: Simkotra – Phajoding 

There is a gradual climb and if the weather is favorable, the trekkers can witness the mesmerizing views of Mount Gangkhar Puensum which is the highest peak in Bhutan. Now, descend and move towards the Phajoding Monastery. Next to the monastery, you would camp. Then, check out the astonishing view of Thimphu Valley, from the Phajoding Monastery. Covering an area of about 10 kilometers in 4 hours, the altitude of the camp would be at 3750 meters. 

Day 8: Phajoding – Thimphu 

The final leg of the trek is towards the downhill; the trekkers will descend and get surrounded with blue alpine forests, and then finally reach Thimphu in approximately 3 hours. Transportation of the trekkers to the hotel in Thimphu will be taken care of. 

Day 9: Sightseeing in Thimphu 

On this day, you would get to witness the cultural sightseeing in Thimphu. Some of the points of attractions are Kuensel Phodrang Nature Park, Folk Heritage Museum and the Takin Preserve. 

Day 10: Departure from Paro 

Drive to the Paro International Airport, and then continue your onwards journey.

Good to Know

Before you plan any trek, make sure you do find out about the favorable months of the trekking destinations. You can plan this trek in between March – June or September- November. It includes several favorable months such as March, April, May June, July August and September. 

Itinerary
