Trip Overview

Jomolhari is a Trekking Pilgrimage and is the most popular trek in the country. Jomolhari Trek to Bhutan is what the Everest Base Camp is to Nepal. The trail encircled with a spectacular view of Mountains and landscapes that allure a lot of travelers across the globe to witness this majestic sight.

The route is one of the most trodden trails in Bhutan offering both challenging and easy versions of the Jomolhari. Tiger’s Nest hike is the highlight of the trek and is located on the face of the rock cliff. The trail is dotted with some of the spectacular impressions that you remember for the rest of your life.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Paro International Airport

As you are about to land in Paro International Airport, enjoy the spectacular aerial view of the Valley. From the airport, the assigned tour guide and driver will meet you. They will transfer you to the hotel, and after taking rest, you can go out and explore the beautiful valley of Paro. You can visit the National Museum, Drugyel Dzong, and other touristy places.

Day 2: Hike to Taktsang Monastery

Start the day with a drive up to the base of the monastery. During the journey, refreshments will be served accompanied by a close view of the Tiger’s Nest perched on a cliff. Take a short break, and then continue the hike on arrival at the monastery. You can visit the shrine, explore the area, and then descend back to the starting point (cafeteria) for lunch. Then descend back to the base and towards the hotel.

Day 3: Paro- Shana- Soi Thangthangka

On this day, you’ll be walking for 8 hours, covering a distance of 22 km. Start with a drive to Shana and begin the trek to Thangthangka. The trail ascends following the Paro River. Reaching Thangthangka, you set your tent for the first camp in a stone shelter amidst the meadow. You can enjoy a breathtaking view of Mount Jomolhari and relax under the star-lit sky.

Day 4: Thangthangka – Jangothang

On this day, the Valley begins to widen. You will come across winter house for yak herders. After having lunch, you’ll camp under a ruined fortress at the base of Jomolhari Mountain. It was an easy trek of 6 hours, where you have covered a distance of 19 km.

Day 5: Acclimatization or Halt at Jangothang

The day is meant to take rest and acclimatize in Jangothang. You can simply relax for the day or explore the nearby areas or engage in day hike around the area that offers a great view of Jomolhari and Jichu Drake Peak.

Day 6: Jangothang – Lingzhi

Continue your trekking journey by heading towards Lingzhi. Crossing through Nyelila Pass, and at this point, you’ll start to descend to the camp area. You’ll walk for around 7 hours, covering the distance of 18km, and then rest at the campsite.

Day 7: Lingzhi – Shodu

The trekking tour to Shodu from Lingzgi follows through deep Valley and then ascends to Yelila Pass. The highlight of the day will be camping in the meadows. The walk of 22 km was covered in 9 hours that need a restful sleep amidst nature.

Day 8: Shodu- Barshong

Today you’ll follow the Thimphu Chhu River and gradually start to climb up to Barshong. The trekking of 22km takes around 6 hours to complete, and the day sums up with camping below a ruined fortress.

Day 9: Barshong – Dolamkencho

The day starts early in the morning, descending to the valley passing through dense forests of maple, rhododendrons, conifer, bamboos, and birch.  Then you begin to climb up to the pasture land, and set the camp in the meadow. The day sums up with a trek of 15km, which you cover in around 6 hours.

Dau 10: Dolamkencho – Dodena

The trek route continues through a dense forest, and you finally exit the Jigme Dorji National Park, where the trek ends. You’ll then be driven to Thimphu and your hotel. 

Day 11: Thimphu Sightseeing

After a restful night, and delicious meal, you can enjoy tourist’s excursions that include cultural sightseeing, visit Kuensel Phodrang Nature Park, Folk Heritage Museum, and more.

Day 12: Depart from Paro

On your last day in Bhutan, an executive will drive you to Paro International Airport for your final departure.

Itinerary
