Trip Overview

The most thrilling and adventurous trek is calling you. Experience the layer of ice on a frozen river called the Zanskar River. This route was used as a trade link by the Zanskaris. You’ll visit some of the ancient monasteries behind the wall and wedged between the majestic Himalayan range and the mighty Karakoram.

Itinerary

Day 01: Leh via flight

Take a whole day to adapt the habit of high altitude and prepare for the trek. Stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 02: Drive until Chilling and Trek up to Tilat Sumdo.

Get a drive till chilling, which is known as the best village for metalwork in Ladakh. You will get a brief halt to experience a confluence of River Zanskar and Indus. Touch the Chadar for the first time and start trekking on the magnificent frozen river till Tilat Sumdo. Stay overnight in a camp/tent/cave.

Day 03: Tilat Sumdo to Shingrak Yogma

Start your morning at 7:30 and start walking on Chadar. You’ll hear different sounds of forming and breaking the chadar. Get familiar with adjusting your feet on the ice and learn where the ice is thick or thin. After an early lunch, you’ll soon reach Shingrak Yogma.

Day 04: from Shingrak Yogma to Tilat Sumdo

Although it is the longest day of the trek, yet you’ll see magnificent waterfalls, ice cliffs and feel like walking in a massive freezer. You may have to climb briefly on the rocky river ridges. The sharp bends and current sometimes break the ice of the river. Have lunch in the midst of rocky hillside by the river.

Day 05: Departure

Drop off at the airport for catching an early morning flight.

Good to Know

Food

Highly nutritious meals are provided during the trek. While you’re up in the mountains, the kitchen staff and cook will be there for you. You’ll get freshly cooked meals with the choice of tea or coffee. You may carry some packaged snacks or nuts along with you for the trek.

Accommodation

Accommodate on twin sharing basis in the hotel and tents. Rooms are filled with basic amenities. Each room has a twin bed, fresh sheets, attached washroom, and 24/7 water facility. During the trek, you’ll get a good quality tent suitable in adverse situations. Tents are spacious and comfortable.

Physical fitness

You need to be physically fit for this trek as you may see challenging situations, long hard days, harsh cold and tough expedition. It is suggested that you start with light physical exercise, jogging, and swimming, and walk for long hours each day. Sometimes temperature drops up to -25 degrees Celsius so pack your bags accordingly.
