Trip Overview

It is environed by snow-capped peaks touching the sky with glory. It is adjacent to the most beloved valley of Ladakh which makes it one of the most sought holiday treks – Markha Valley trek. It is accessible from Ganda La Pass Spituk in the west. You can see nomadic families herd their yaks, many small monasteries, and view of Kang Yatze.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Leh

A representative will be ready at the airport with a warm welcome and transfer you to the hotel. You’ll be at an altitude of 11,500ft so it is suggested to rest for the day to get used to with altitude.

Day 02: Leh to chilling from the drive and trek up to Skiu

Take a ride to Chilling and then start trekking till Skiu. Get a chance to stay overnight in a home.

Day 03: Skiu to Markha Trek 

It is a pleasant hike up to the Markha Valley along with a chance to cross numerous streams. Markha village is a quaint village with a deserted fort and small village. Stay overnight at home.

Day 04: Markha to Thochungtse trek

Experience changes in warm weather and heavily wooded sections of Markha which is left behind. You have to cross the river several times as there are no bridges here. Hankar is the highest village in Markha valley. Stay overnight at home.

Day 05: Thochungtse to Nimaling 

Start exploring the grassy ridge, with several small inclines along with a series of Mani walls and chortens en route. It is one of the highest valleys in Ladakh. It is dominated by the Kangyaze peak. Stay overnight at home.

Day 06: Nimaling to Shang Sumdo Trek

Climb at the top of the three highest passes Kongmaru La towards the north of Markha. You can see snow peaks in every direction and on clear days K2 and Karakoram can also be seen. Start descending to the Martselang valley and Martselang stream till Sumd village. Staff will pick you from the last point of the trek and drive you to the hotel.

Good to Know

Food

Taste authentic Himalayan food during the trek. You’ll get meals three times a day along with the choice of tea or coffee. Snacks will be served during the trek and you may carry some packaged snacks if you want. You can carry water purifying pills because during the trek you may not find packaged water.

Accommodation

Enjoy homestay during the trek in small villages with 14 to 15 houses, experience true mountain life. Rooms will be equipped with basic facilities on twin sharing basis. In Leh, you’ll stay in a hotel with all the basic facilities.
