Trip Overview

The Sagarmatha National Park has been an adventurous and popular trek of Nepal since 1950. It includes Renjo La Pass (5360m), Cho La Pass (5420m), Kongma La Pass (5535m), and other attractions like Gokyo Ri (5360m), Kalapathar (5,545m), and Everest Base camp (5364m). The views of landscapes are unbeatable. You need to be physically fit to complete this trek. In this trek, you’ll be able to enjoy gigantic views of four massive mountains – Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Lhotse, and Mt. Everest.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

You’ll arrive at the Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, and the Sherpa Expedition staff will be there for your warm welcome. After picking you up from the airport, they’ll drop you at the hotel. You’ll get brief about your trip, hotels, and lodges on the route, with a complete guide of do’s and don’ts.

Day 2: Lukla (2850m) to Phakding (2610m)

After breakfast in the hotel, you’ll get a ride to the domestic Kathmandu airport for the flight to Lukla. Once you reach Lukla, you’ll meet your porters; will have lunch at Yeti mountain home lodge, after that move further on an easy trek from Lukla to Phakding. In this trek, you’ll see pastoral lands of the Sherpas. You may enjoy tea and snacks on the small lodges and tea shops. After this, you’ll reach your first lodge in Phakding located besides the Dudh Koshi River.

Day 3: Trek to Namche Bazaar

By walking through the beautiful pine forest you’ll cross suspension bridges and catch the wonderful views of Mt. Thamserku. You’ll cross a check post and enter the Sagarmatha National Park and cross the last village of Jorsole before reaching Namche Bazaar. After two hours of walking, you’ll get a sight of Mt. Everest peering over the Lhotse Nuptse Ridge. After the walk of about 1.5 hours, you’ll reach Namche Bazaar and stay overnight.

Day 4: Namche Bazaar for acclimatization

You’ll either spend this day hiking to the Thame, may visit Khunde or you may explore and relax in Namche Bazaar. It is the main center of the Everest region. It is a proper market with ATMs, bakery, etc. You may buy things from here and enjoy the Sherpa culture while exploring the area.

Day 5: Trekking to Tengboche

After breakfast in Namche, you’ll move towards Tengboche to enjoy the superb views of the mountains. Most of the trek follows a smooth trail. You can enjoy the superb view of Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and a close view of Thamserku. You will experience an easy trek up to Kayangjuma. After this, you’ll reach the Everest base camp. After that, you’ll reach Phunki Thenga, the route will be slightly tougher to climb from the pine forest before you reach to Tengboche. This place is popular for its monasteries. You'll stay here overnight.

Day 6: Trekking to Dingboche

Tengboche is famous for its sunrise and monasteries. You’ll start moving upward towards Pangboche village. Here you’ll get lunch with the scenic views of Mt. Ama Dablam. After this, you’ll start moving towards the east from the easy trail. Then you’ll enter Imja valley. You descend into Lobuche River and begin the sheer climb up to Dingboche. You will stay here overnight and may enjoy the scenic views.

Day 7: Stay at Dingboche

Here you’ll enjoy beautiful farms with scenic views. You’ll get a rest day and a short hike up to Nagarjun hills for awesome views along with the spectacular views of Mt. Makalu.

Day 8: trekking to Chhukung

Today you’ll have a short walk up to Chhukung along with Imjatse valley with snow-laden Mt. Makalu towards your east. You’ll stay here overnight.

Day 9: trekking to Kongoma la

You’ll start your day early and start your journey with climbing on the icy path. You’ll reach to Kongma la pass. After a tough climb, you’ll move towards Khumbu glacier and after that Lobuche. Here you’ll stay overnight.

Day 10: trekking to Gorak Shep.

You’ll pass from the Pyramid signpost. The trail will follow to the north ridge of Everest accompanied by Mt. Pumori, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Khumbutse, Mt. Lingtern, Mt. Mahalangur, etc. After moving further, you will catch a glimpse of Kalapathar beneath Mt. Pumori. After that, you’ll reach Gorak Shep and stay there overnight.

Day 11: Hiking to Kalapatther and Dzongla

You’ll start hiking to Kalapathar, and after that, you’ll head back to Gorakshep. From there, you’ll reach Cho La pass at Dzongla and stay there overnight.

Day 12: trekking to Thinktank

You’ll start walking to Thangtank early morning. This trek starts from Dzongkha. This trek is slightly tougher than previous day’s trek. You’ll cross Cho La and climb towards Thangnak. Here the climbing is not easy; you have to be very careful. You’ll stay here overnight.

Day 13: trekking to Gokyo

You’ll start your day early morning by trekking from Longponga to ascending towards Gokyo. After a short walk from Ngozumpa glacier, you’ll reach Gokyo and spend the night there.

Day 14: trekking from fifth lake to Gokyo

You’ll start trekking early morning to Gokyo Ri. Here you can enjoy breathtaking views of Mt. Cho Oyo, Mt. Everest, Gyachung Kang, Mt. Lhotse, Taweche, Cholatse, and Mt. Makalu in the east. You’ll stay here overnight.

Day 15: trekking to Renjo La

You’ll start the trek early in the morning by leaving Gokyo. This is a challenging trek that offers marvelous views of Mt. Everest, Tabocge, Lhotse, Cholatse and then you’ll cross Renjo La Pass. You’ll reach the top with a beautiful view of Mt. Cho Oyu. You’ll stay here overnight.

Day 16: trekking to Monjo

After you reach Thame village, you’ll start moving towards Namche bazaar by crossing pine forest and then back to Sagarmatha National Park for overnight stay.

Day 17: trekking to Lukla

Today, you’ll reach Phakding and then start moving back to Lukla with the last climb. Here you’ll celebrate your journey with dinner.

Day 18: Fly back to Kathmandu

This day you’ll get a flight back to Kathmandu, and you’ll be dropped off to your hotel. You may rest at the hotel or you may celebrate your journey.

Day 19: way to home

You will get a drop off service from the staff to the international airport for your flight back home.

Good to Know

  • Food: Breakfast will be served in Kathmandu including all the meals (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner). You may enjoy authentic Nepalese food at the tea stalls. It is suggested to carry water purifying pills as bottled water may not available in these shops.
  • Physical fitness: This is a challenging trek and suitable for those who have some past experiencing in trekking. You don’t need to be an athlete but simply makes sure you are physically fit.
  • Altitude sickness: You may experience altitude sickness as we’re going to climb up to to high altitudes. To avoid this you must drink 3 to 4 liters of water every day. Avoid smoking and alcohol. Avoid making rapid ascend. Avoid traveling alone.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
