Trip Overview

Jomsom Muktinath Trek has some spectacularly unique views of the incredible mountains. The route along the Mustang Valley has famous temples and beautiful monasteries which makes the trip more alluring and deeply enchanting. This trek to Jomsom Muktinath will take you through the Valley of Kaligandaki River to Muktinath- a pilgrimage site.

This trek can start from three different points. The first option is to take an hour drive to Nayapul from Pokhara, and then trek via Tikhendhunga and Ghorepani to Muktinath. The second option is to drive via Nayapul to Beni and start trekking via Tatopani (hot spring) to Muktinath. The third option is to fly to Jomsom and then start your trekking to Muktinath. Although, our trekking team roots for option one!

If you are trekking through Thikhedhunga-Ghorepani-Tatopani via Nayapul, you will end up at the most popular attraction of the trek which is Poon Hill. Poon Hill is known to offer panoramic views of Annapurna Himalayan Range. The trekking trail heads towards Kali Gandaki River gorge, passing through the Dhaulagiri icefall, though Thakali villages to finally reach the headquarters of the Jomsom. March towards Kagbeni, then Muktinath where you will explore the Muktinath Temple, then descend via Lupra to Jomsom. Take a flight on the next morning to Pokhara to end the trip.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu (1400m)

The appointed representative will receive you at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, and will safely escort you to the hotel. The pre-trip meeting would be on the same day of the arrival by the concerned trekking guide. For the meeting, you need to carry three passport size photos, passport, and a copy of the travel insurance policy. Overnight stay will be at the hotel only, while no meals will be included.

Day 2: Fly or drive to Pokhara, 6-7 hours

Drive towards Pokhara Valley where you will be transferred to the respective hotel near the beautiful Phewa Lake. Here you can go for a short walk in the evening or take a 30 minutes flight to Pokhara.

Day 3: Trek to Tikhedunga (1,570m) and drive to Nayapul (1,010m), 4 hours

Start your trek from Nayapul after a one-hour drive. You will come across the banks of Modi Khola just after 15-minutes, and then you reach a village called Birehanti (1,015m) which has many teahouses and shops. From there the trail will ascend towards the valley to Hille (1,495m), where you will reach Tikhedhunga (1,570m). The trek on this particular day will be short and easy. The overnight stay will be at a guesthouse and all the meals will be included.

Day 4: Trek to Ghorepani (2,840m), 5 hours

Trek towards Ulleri, a Magar village with an altitude of 2,070m. The trail will comprise of forests with oak trees, rhododendron flowers as you walk towards Banhanti which is at 2,250m. From there you trek towards Nangethani which is residing at 2,460m, and after an hour walk, you will reach Ghorepani (2,840m). The overnight stay will be at a guesthouse, and all the meals will be included.

Day 5: Trek to Tatopani (1,190m) and hike up to Poon Hill (3,210m)

Begin your trek to Poon Hill where you can witness the best Himalayan viewpoints. After breakfast, we continue to Tatopani, and then the trail will make a steep descent to Chitre (2,390m), coming across Sikha village, Ghara (1,705m), Ghar Khola, and eventually Tatopani. The overnight stay will be at a guesthouse and all the meals will be covered.

Day 6: Trek to Ghasa (2,010m), 4-5 hours

The trail will climb up to Kali Gandaki gorge which is considered as the deepest in the world. It is situated between the famous peaks of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. The trail will cross Dana (1,400m), then Rupse Chhabra (1,550m) and also a stunning waterfall. Reach Kochepani after crossing a suspension bridge, and then climb to Ghasa. The overnight stay is organized at a guesthouse with all the meals.

Day 7: Trek to Tukche (2,586m), 5-6 hours

Cross the eastern side of the river to start the trek and to reach Larjung at 2,560m. The trail consists of narrow alleyways in the Khobang village. Spend the night at Tukuche (2,590m) - the ancient Thakali village. All meals are covered, and the stay will be at a guesthouse.

Day 8: Trek to Kagbeni (2,810m), 4-5 hours

Climb up to Jomsom (2,713m) which is a bustling settlement with all the modern facilities and government offices. Taking a direct route to Muktinath, we follow the trail to reach Kagbeni (2,810m) which is at the junction of Kali Gandaki and Jhong Khola. Kagbeni incorporates a rich Tibetan culture, good hospitality, and a warm welcome atmosphere. The overnight stay will be at the guesthouse with all the meals included.

Day 9: Trek to Muktinath (3,802m), 4-5 hours

Trek to the Valley of Jhong Khola and join the trail of Muktinath. Cross the Jharkot village, Ranipauwa, and then the actual religious site of Muktinath which is a pilgrimage center of Hindus and Buddhists, witness the most talked about eternal flame at an old temple, and get a spiritual experience. Stay for the night at a guesthouse and all your meals will be covered.

Day 10: Return to Jomsom (2,713m), 4-5 hours

Follow the same trail near Kagbeni and then trek down to Eklebhatti. Overnight stay at the guesthouse and the meals will be included.

Day 11: Take a flight to Pokhara, 30 minutes

Take a morning flight to Pokhara from Jomsom. Once you arrive at the airport, you will be taken to the hotel in Pokhara where you will be staying for the night. While in the afternoon you will be taken for local sightseeing around the valley covering Phewa Lake, museum, caves, etc. The breakfast will be included.

Day 12: Drive back to Kathmandu (1,400m) on a tourist bus. 6-7 hours

On this day, we will drive back in the morning to Kathmandu where there are many options to explore like the Chitwan Jungle Safari, Mountain Biking, River Rafting, Shopping tour, and other activities. Enjoy your farewell dinner in the Nepalese way with some cultural performances.

Day 13: For the final departure, transfer to the International Airport

The trip comes to an end here! Our representative will drop you at the Kathmandu International airport for your final departure. (Breakfast included)
