Trip Overview

Witness the most untouched trek of Nepal – Guerrilla trek, yet to be affected by commercialization. The trekking route is inhabited by Kshetri, Brahmin, Gurung, Magar, Dalit, Newar, and Thakuri ethnics. As the name suggests, this trek covers the footsteps of Maoist guerillas during the insurgency. You can enjoy local vegetation, reserve hunting sanctuary, and bird watching.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

You’ll arrive at Tribhuvan international airport in Kathmandu and staff from Sherpa will pick you and drop off at the hotel where you’ll get a briefing about the trek from your guide and get welcome dinner.

Day 02: Kathmandu to Beni

You’ll get 7 hours of drive from Kathmandu to Beni in a private car.

Day 03: Beni to Takam

It’ll take 6 hours of trekking to reach Takam from Myagdi district headquarters on the gravel road. Takam is 3 hours walk away from Guraj Himal. Stay here in homestay or tents for overnight.

Day 04: Takam to Lamsung

The scenery from here starts getting more dramatic. You’ll get to know the real Nepal before trekkers came here. Locals here are not used to with foreigners and have lots of stories to tell about Maoist insurgency. It will take 6 hours to reach Lamsung from Takam. Stay overnight in homestay.

Day 05: Lamsung to Gurjaghat

Climb through dense pine forest with deer darting in the undergrowth. The meadow ridge provides a 180-degree view of Dhaulagiri range up to Churan Himal. It’ll take 6 hours to reach Gurjaghat.

Day 06: Gurjaghat to Dhorpatan

Pass through Myagdi to Baglung and into a former Tibetan refugee camp built by the Swiss in the 1950s. It is an entrance to Dhorpatan – a hunting reserve. Here you can spot mountain goats and blue sheep.

Day 07: Dhorpatan to Nisi Dhor

This place is a paradise for birds. It will take 5 hours to reach Nisi Dhor. You can enjoy watching pheasant and other migratory bird species. It is hard to imagine people fought a war here. There are cow sheds in the monsoon, but in winter it is deserted.

Day 08: Nisi Dhor to Tallo Sera

Cross over Baglung to Rukkum into the Magar community, and you’ll enter a former Maoist base area. Here are lots of dense forests and certainly an easy place to hide from helicopter patrols. The villages are beautiful and most of the times they are celebrating some or the other Magar festivals.

Day 09: Tallo Sera to Rujhikhola

Walk to Lukum in Rukum village inhabited by Dalits and Magars. This area belongs to medieval Nepal. It will take 6 hours to reach.

Day 10: Rujhikhola to Thabang

This place was the cradle of the Maoist revolution. This place was damaged in army attacks and a certain sections of the town got damaged by ‘Tora Bora’ mortars. A few developments have occurred in the infrastructure after the war ended. People here are eager and friendly.

Day 11: Thabang to Jaljala

The highest point in Jaljala is Dharampani with great views of Apishaipal. It will take 5 hours to reach here. Trek down to Jelbang. It will take 6 hours. You’ll move down from high mountains in the villages with mix ethnics.

Day 12: Jaljala to Sulichaur

This is where Ropla finally reached. It was a rebel area for war under Maoist control. Here are many restaurants run by Maoist cooperative where the staffs are the relatives of those who were killed in the fighting.

Day 13: Sulichaur to Kathmandu

You’ll come back to Kathmandu by bus. It’ll take 13 hours.

Day 14: Departure

This is the last day and our staff will drop you at Tribhuvan international airport well before your scheduled flight.

Good to Know

Food

You’ll get meals three times a day. Meals are freshly cooked. You’ll get breakfast in Kathmandu and welcome dinner and farewell dinner as well.

Accommodation

Enjoy staying in home-stays during the trek. Accommodation will be comfortable and spacious. In Kathmandu, you’ll stay in a 3-star hotel.
