Trip Overview

Helambu is a less crowded and easy trek with a short duration.  The trek is full of Himalayan views, enticing mountains, and scenic beauty at every turn. Listen to the sweet chirping of birds and feel the cool breeze in this isolated location, cut away from the complexities of the fast life. Witness graceful waterfalls, small lakes with floating icebergs, crystalline water from the mountain streams, and snow bridges. Experience the exquisite flora and fauna at wildlife reserves, as you cross through the rhododendron forests.

Indulge in the culture and ethos of local mountain people and try the local delicacies of that area. Tamang and Sherpa people are very welcoming and would make you feel a part of the mountain family. Autumn and spring are the preferred seasons for this trek, offering gorgeous views of Mother Nature.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu and Check-in at hotel
    Reach Kathmandu International Airport and our representative will meet you there and transfer you to the hotel. The tour manager will meet you at the hotel and brief all the participants about the trip, followed by a welcome dinner.
  • Day 2: Sundarijal to Chisapani
    Transfer to Sundarijal by car, from where the trek to Chisapani will commence. Cross through Shivapuri Wild Life protected area, followed by a tough climb for 3-4 hours. One hour descend to reach Chisapani and stay overnight.
  • Day 3: Chisapani to Kutmsang
    The ascending trail will lead you to a point from where you can view Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Lirung and Dorjelakpa. Continue trek to PatiBhyanjyang, followed by Gulbhyang village. Interact with Tamang people and start trekking upwards to reach Kutumsang.
  • Day 4 : Kutumsang to Thadepati
    Commence the 5 hour upwards trek towards Thadepati. Cross through beautiful Rhododendron trees and side views of Gosanikund and Helambu. Overnight stay at Thadepati will be arranged.
  • Day 5: Thadepati to Tarkeghyang
    Leave early after breakfast and drop down to Melamchiguan, an area inhabited by Sherpa tribe. Stop for lunch and visit the village and monastery. Continue trek towards MelamchiKhola and cross the bridge. Climb all the way up to Tarkeghyang and stay overnight.
  • Day 6: Tarkeghyang to Kakan
    Experience a gentle and easy trail till Sermathang. Trek though a forest and stop for lunch at Sermathang. Continue with downward trek and reach Kakani for overnight stay.
  • Day 7: Kakani to Melamchi and drive to Kathmandu
    This is a short 2 hour trek to Melamchi, from where you will board a bus that will drop you at the hotel. Enjoy farewell dinner and stay overnight.
  • Day 8: Departure
    The trekking staff will drop all the guests at the Kathmandu International Airport for departure.

Good to Know

During the stay in Kathmandu, accommodation is arranged in 3-star hotel. Upon the commencement of the trek, guests will be accommodated in tea-houses on a twin-sharing basis. Meals will be served three times a day and will include rice dishes, soups, noodles, etc. The best time to embark on the Helambu trek is during spring time (March to May) and autumn (September to December).
