Trip Overview

Ghorepani Poon Hill is a scenic viewpoint that offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Ranges. Annapurna trek is popular amongst trekkers, and Poon Hill Trek is an easy one in the region. This is a short and perfect trek for the beginners who are short of time but want to experience the magnificence of nature in Nepal.

The trek starts and an ends at Pokhara. The valley is inhabited by ethnic groups of Gurung and Magar people. The trek trail leads through Modi Khola Valley- Tikhedunga- Ulleri Hill- Rhododendron Forest- Magar Village of Ghorepani-Poon Hill- Gurung Village of Ghandruk- Pokhara.

The trail provides a mesmerizing view of the Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, Dhampus, Nilgiri, Annapurna South, Bhara Sikhar, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), when on top of Poonhill.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu, where the staff members of Sherpa Expedition and Trekking welcome you and transfer you to a 3-star hotel and brief you about your trekking expedition followed by a welcome dinner.

Day 2: Drive or Fly to Pokhara

The trekking voyage begins with a 6-7 hours drive towards mesmeric Pokhara Valley, you can also opt for flying option, and it takes 30 minutes to reach Pokhara. There you’ll be transferred to the hotel located close to Lake Phewa.

Day 3: Pokhara to Tikhedhunga

You start early in the morning and take a drive of 1.25 hrs from Pokhara via Lumle Village to Nayapil. The Poonhill Sunrise Trek begins from Nayapul, and then you reach to Birethandi- a check post area to check the tourist permit. Following the Modi, River, continue the trek and reach Tikhedunga, a place for overnight stay and rest at a Guest House after a trek of 4-5 hours.

Day 4: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani

The trek starts with a steep ascent of 2hours and reaches Ulleri. Crossing the Magar Village of Banthanti, you get the spectacular views of Machhapuchhre Mountain, Hiunchuli Mountain, and Annapurna South Mountain. The trek then leads you through Rhododendron Forest and you’ll pass the small bridge reaching the village of Ghorepani. At this point, you get a captivating view of the Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Annapurna 1 and other mountains.

Day 5: Ghorepani to Tadapani

Wake up early in the morning before dawn to reach Poonhill viewpoint to witness popular sunrise. Observe the sunrays gradually falling on the snow-covered mountain ranges and catch the breathtaking spectacular views of the Dhaulagiri Mountain, Annapurna 1 Mountain, Annapurna 2 Mountain, Annapurna 3 Mountain, Annapurna 4 Mountain, Annapurna South Mountain, Nilgiri Mountain, Tukuche Mountain, Varaha Shikhar, Lamjung Himal, and other mountains. Return to the guest house for breakfast, and then trek to Tadapani Village. The trail passes through a scenic trail through the ridge of Deurali Teahouses to reach Tadapani crossing distance of 2710m in 5-6 hours.

Day 6: Trek from Tadapanu to Ghandruk

The trek starts with three hours of easy walk through the forests of oak, rhododendron and other alpine flowers that takes you to Ghandruk. The place provides you a spectacular view of Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna 3, Hiunchuli, and other mountains. The village is the second largest in Nepal and is mainly inhabited by the Gurung people. Explore the village as you reach here after 5-6 hours of walk and know about their culture and customs.

Day 7: Ghandruk to Pokhara

This is the last day of this trekking expedition. Start your walk by ascending through the teahouses and beautiful stone trail passing the terrace farm. Then you take the route down aside the Modi Khola and after 5-6 hours of walk reach Birethandi. From here you’ll drive to Pokhara and stay there in a 3-star hotel.

Day 8: Drive or Fly to Kathmandu

Morning travel by private vehicle or tourist coach, you’ll be transferred to Kathmandu. After a drive of 6-7 hours, you reach a 3-star hotel close to Thamel. You can also opt for a flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu.

Day 9: Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport

With memories of great experience, board your flight back home. Sherpa Expedition and Trekking staff transfers you to the airport three hours before your flight schedule.

Good to Know

  • During the trek, you’ll be staying in 3-star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara, and at best tree/guest houses while on trek trail.
  • Organizer serves all three meals during the trek, but only welcome dinner is included while you’re in Kathmandu.
  • The trek is suitable for beginners who can walk 4-5 hours a day. Trekkers with a pre-existing condition - lung, heart disease or other serious ailments should consult a doctor before the trip.
  • For transportation, the organizer uses private car for the pick and drop facility.
  • Best time for the trek is in the autumn and spring season to have a clearer view of more than ten peaks. However, this trek can be done throughout the year.
  • Carry warm clothes.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu
