Trip Overview

Gurung Culture Trek delivers what you can ask for from a trek, a first-hand experience and a glimpse into the culture of the Gurung’s - the traditional country life. In this trek, a trekker gets to stay with a typical Gurung family, at their old house in a unique lifestyle. The route will be a mix of a variety of Gurung villages like Bhujung, Ghalegaun, Pashgaun, Pakhrikot, Lamjung district and Thumsikot of Kaski district.

This is a popular tour which is thoughtfully designed for the entertainment of travelers, researchers, backpackers, and students who would like to explore the ancient ways of living in the mountains. What makes this tour and activity even more welcoming is the picturesque fish-eye landscapes, dense forests, terraced farmlands, freshwater rivers, wildlife, and the local rituals which are performed at the heart of this location. Enjoy the splendid natural surroundings in this fun, trail trek.

The Gurung Culture trek or the Gurung Heritage trek commences after the 6-hour drive from the Gumle Bazaar (606m/1988ft). The trail passes from the cultivated landscapes, in-between the two beautiful rivers - Madi River in the south and west, and Marsyandi in the east. This area also comprises of small river valleys like Midim River Valley, Khudi River Valley, and Rusi River valley with several tributaries. In Nepal, the Gurung community is Mongolian Tibetan ethnic people who live in the west of Nepal. Many of these people are also called "Tamang" and are residing in Lamjung, Kaski district, Naglung, Dhading, and Gorkha. The main attraction of this entire trek is the traditional culture, the ethnic Indo-Asian vibe, the language and most importantly, the humble people!

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu and Check-in to the hotel

At the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, our concerned representative will be receiving you with the utmost respect, and with a signboard of Sherpa Expedition and Trekking outside the terminal of the airport. Then on a tourist vehicle, you will be transferred to the booked hotel safely,either on the same day or the next day of the trek. You will be attending a meeting with the trek leaders and the guides before you start with your trek. Also, sign the legally binding trip form, and the non-liability disclaimer.

Note: Do carry the following documents; Passport, three copies of passport size photos, copy of travel insurance policy.

Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Khudi (7-8 hours)

On this day, you will be driving to Khudi from Kathmandu, where you will get to visit the Buddhist monasteries, a tranquilizing walk next to the Marshyangdi River, and other local attractions like the traditional lifestyle of the people and the community. Live in history for a day of the year!

Day 3: Ghalegaun to Ghanapokhara Bhujung (6-7 hours)

Trek to Ghanapokhara or Ghalegaun who host exemplary homestays, offering a good amount of facilities. Here, you can witness the Gurung cultural shows, enjoy the beautiful views from Manaslu and Annapurna ranges, the soul-touching sunrise and sunsets. 

Day 4: Bhujung to Pasgaun (6-7 hours)

Now, you will be entering the well-populated village called Bhujung, where you will get to observe the exciting cultural shows of the Gurung community.

Day 5: Pasgaun to Nagidhar Pakhrikot (7-8 hours)

After a thrilling experience of 4 days, you will be trekking to Pasgaun to document the village life of the people up close. Then you will be visiting Midim River for the hydro project, get your hands on the Gurung handicrafts, and also experience the silence in and around the divine Buddhist monastery.

Day 6: Nagidhar to Pakhrikot(5-6 hours)

Trekkers will be climbing up to Nagidhar village, where the 200 years old Gurung settlement is placed upon a beautiful hill. Short hikes can be done towards the refreshing lake.

Day 7: Trek to Pokhara (5-6 hours)

Then you trek to Kande from Nagidhara and further drive to Pokhara.

Day 8: Pokhara to Kathmandu (7-8 hours) - by Bus

Via road, it takes nearly 7 hours to reach Kathmandu International Airport, while if you take the flight then you will be reaching in 30 minutes at the terminal of Kathmandu. The staff member will be taking you for a ride back to the hotel. 

Day 9: Drop-off at the International Airport

It's your last day, and the Nepal adventure with the Gurung culture trek comes to an end today! Approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight, you will be escorted and dropped off at the International Airport of Nepal. See you again!
