This is your opportunity to satisfy your thirst for adventure through this amazing trip to Ladakh. This trip will be an entirely new experience for you. You’ll start by exploring monasteries in the upper Indus valley, Spitok. From here you’ll get an amazing view of the valley. As being a beginner, you must talk to your guide for all the relevant information in detail. If you have experience in trekking, then you may complete two to three stages in a day.
Day 01: Delhi to Leh.
You’ll take the morning flight to Leh. You’ll shift into guest houses and get a whole day for acclimatization. You’ll stay overnight in the guesthouse.
Day 02: Leh to Shey, Thiksey, and Hemis.
You’ll begin your day by visiting some of the ancient monasteries of this area.
Shey Gompa is 15 km away from Leh. It was the summer palace of the Kings of Ladakh. It was built in the 17th Century AD by Deldan Namgyal. It has lots of Stupas and Gompas - the main attraction of this place is the Buddha statue. Thiksey Gompa is nearby Shey and 17km away from Leh. This monastery belongs to Gelukspa Order and considered one of the most beautiful monasteries in Ladakh.
Hemis is 45 Km away from Leh in the south. It is quite popular and the largest in Ladakh. It was founded in the early 17th century and nowadays belongs to the Drukpa Order. This monastery is in a lovely valley surrounded by long Mani walls and streams. You’ll stay here overnight in the guest house.
Day 03 Leh, Spitok – trekking to Zinchen
Your day will start a little early today. You’ll get a ride from Leh to reach Spituk. After visiting Spituk Gompa, you’ll start walking towards the southwest of the River Indus. After reaching the village Zinchen, you’ll stay here overnight in the tents.
Day 04: Zinchen to Yurutse via Rumbak
On this day you’ll start walking towards Rumbak which is a gradual climb. You’ll see the snowcapped mountains. You’ll reach Yurutse followed by Rumbak Nala. There are fields of barley and potatoes in the area. You’ll stay here overnight in tents.
Day 05: from Yurutse to Skiu via Ganda La
You’ll experience an ascent through the steep climb to reach Ganda La. From here you can see the Zanskar range and summits of the Himalayas from a distance. After crossing them, you’ll reach Shingo village heading through a narrow trail towards Skiu. You’ll stay in Skiu overnight at the tents nearby the confluence of the rivers coming from Shingo and Markha Valley.
Day 06: from Skiu to Markha
You’ll cross various streams, to reach the quaint village of Markha with a deserted fort. It will be a pleasant hike for you. You’ll stay here overnight in tents.
Day 07: from Markha to Thochuntse
You’ll cross Markha and notice warm weather with heavy wooded sections. You have to cross rivers several times as there are no bridges. You’ll reach Thochuntse and stay here overnight in the tents.
Day 08: from Thochuntse to Nimaling
You’ll start trekking on the grassy ridges. You’ll see a series of Mani walls and Chortens. Nimaling is a beautiful valley in Ladakh dominated by the Kangyaze peak. You'll stay here overnight in tents.
Day 09: from Nimaling to Kongmaru
On this day you’ll cross north of the Markha and climb on the top of the highest three passes the Kongmaru La (5,306M). Here you’ll get a good view of many other peaks including K2. After that, you’ll start descending towards Martselang valley followed by Sumdo village. You'll stay here overnight in tents.
Day 10: from Sumdo to Hemis
You’ll start descending towards Martselang. Here you’ll get jeeps to reach Hemis monastery and after that, you’ll get a ride to Leh. Here you’ll stay overnight in the hotel.
Day 11: from Leh to Delhi
You’ll get a ride for the airport to catch a flight for Delhi.
Food
You’ll get a variety of food during the trek. They can also arrange a special birthday cake during the trek for group members. You’ll get meals three times a day along with your choice of snacks and desserts. You may have black tea, lemon tea, milk tea, ginger tea, or masala tea. Please carry water cleaning pills along with as you may not get packaged water up in the mountains.
Accommodation
You’ll get spacious and cozy rooms filled with basic amenities during your stay in Leh. Do not expect high-class service in the mountains. You’ll be provided a tent and mattress; you may carry your sleeping bag or personnel tent as well.
